Women’s Lacrosse Falls Short in NE10 Semifinals at Top-Seeded Adelphi

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – Despite multiple second-half rallies, the fifth-seeded Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team fell to the No. 1 seed, Adelphi University, on Wednesday night at Motamed Field in the Northeast 10 Conference Championship Semifinals, 16-14.

How it Happened

Adelphi came out strong in the opening quarter, jumping to a 2-0 lead behind goals from Alexandra Leggio and Marielle Colalillo. Saint Anselm responded with a tally from Herrick, but Adelphi continued to control the pace, building a 6-2 advantage late in the frame. The Hawks closed the gap slightly before the end of the quarter with two goals from Rowley, making it 6-3 after one.

The second quarter saw both teams trade runs. Rowley continued her strong play, completing her hat trick early in the period to bring Saint Anselm within one. However, Adelphi answered with a series of goals from Michaela Burke, Leggio, and Rita Sefransky to stretch the lead to 10-6 at halftime.

Saint Anselm mounted its best push in the third quarter, erupting for six goals. McDermod, Mawn, and Rowley all contributed during the surge, with Rowley netting multiple goals in the period. The Hawks eventually erased the deficit, tying the game at 12-12 with just 30 seconds remaining in the quarter.

In the fourth, Adelphi regained control in the closing minutes. After Sefransky and Emma Mclam gave Adelphi the lead, Saint Anselm answered with goals from Hill and McDermod to tie it once again at 14-14. Adelphi delivered the final goals of the contest, as Ashley Kolomechuk scored twice in the final five minutes to secure the 16-14 win.
