WALTHAM, Mass. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team grabbed an 11-8 win over Bentley University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday.
With the win, the Hawks, who are ranked No. 11 in the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II National Poll, improve to 4-2 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. The Falcons, who are ranked No. 19 in the same poll, fall to 4-3 overall and to 3-1 in NE10 contests.
Junior
Noah Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) matched a game-high with three goals while brothers senior
Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) and sophomore
Will Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) scored two goals each. Junior
Chase Lilly (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore
Colin Mulvey (Reading, Mass.) recorded a pair of assists each in the contest.
The Hawks would net the game's first goal as
Will Andrews opened the scoring at 10:07 of the first quarter. Senior
Will Harvey (Franklin, Mass.) and Larsen extended the scoring run to three with one goal apiece, giving Saint Anselm a 3-0 lead with 7:22 left in the opening period.
Bentley got on the scoreboard with 3:06 left in the first frame on a goal by
Garrett Witt but senior
Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) regained the three-goal edge for the Hawks late in the period, which pushed the score to 4-1.
Witt netted his second of the game early in the second quarter and the sides would trade goals 30 seconds apart from each other late in the quarter to send the teams to the half with the Hawks leading, 5-3.
Jack Andrews and Witt were responsible for the tallies to close the first half.
The teams combined for four goals, two each side, in the opening 5:50 of the third quarter and a Bentley goal with 2:46 remaining in the third quarter cut the Hawks lead to one at 7-6.
Larsen found the back of the cage with exactly one minute remaining in the third but that was answered by
David Gagnon who found the back of the goal with just six seconds left in the quarter. Saint Anselm held an 8-7 edge through 45 minutes of play.
Jack Andrews gave the Hawks a two-goal lead at 13:42 of the fourth before Larsen pushed the lead to three with 8:42 remaining in regulation.

Joe Lombardi (Holliston, Mass.) traded scores to keep the Hawks lead at three at 11-8.
A pair of penalties whistled on the Falcons aided the Hawks in closing out the remaining time as Saint Anselm posted an 11-8 win in the battle of nationally-ranked programs.
Senior
David Olsen (Salem, N.H.) improved to 4-2 on the season after making nine saves in the cage for the Hawks.
Bentley held a 37-34 edge in shot attempts but it was Saint Anselm who held a 19-17 advantage in shots on goal.
The Hawks collected 30 ground balls in the game and were led by freshman
Quinn Gannon (Scituate, Mass.) who grabbed six. Both teams were scoreless in a combined eight extra-man opportunities.
Saint Anselm will be back in action on Wednesday, Apr. 5 against in-state foe Franklin Pierce University. The NE10 matchup is slated for a 4 p.m. start from Rindge, N.H.
