PREVIEW: No. 25 women's lacrosse opens NE10 slate at Saint Michael's, Southern Conn. St.

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team opens its Northeast-10 Conference slate with a pair of road contests at Saint Michael's College and Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Mar. 8 and Saturday, Mar. 11.

Wednesday's NE10 opener from Colchester, Vt. is slated for a 3 p.m. start while Saturday's contest is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start from New Haven, Conn.

The Hawks posted a 17-6 win over D'Youville College on Feb. 26, marking their most recent contest of the season. With the win, Saint Anselm improved to 3-0 for the fourth consecutive season. Saint Anselm will head to Spark, Md. to meet Charleston (W.V.) on Sunday, Mar. 19 which will be the team's fourth consecutive game played away from the Hilltop, following the pair of conference opening games.

The Purple Knights captured a 12-7 season-opening win over Post University on Mar. 6. After the Saint Michael's NE10 opener against the Hawks, the team will head to Assumption University on Saturday, Mar. 11 for its first road contest of the 2023 season.

The Owls fell to Bentley University by a 15-7 score on Mar. 5 in their NE10 opening contest, dropping them to 2-1 on the season with a 0-1 record in conference games. Before welcoming the Hawks, Southern Connecticut State will host Caldwell University in a non-conference game on Wednesday, Mar. 8.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Saint Anselm moved into the ILWomen/IWLCA Division II Poll on Monday, claiming the No. 25 spot. It is the first time this season the Hawks are featured in the Top 25 of the poll.
  • Senior Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) joined the 100-point club in the win over D'Youville and now sits at 105 points for her career. Cobain netted three goals and added four assists for seven points in that win, which aided her to the NE10 Player of the Week honors on Feb. 27.
  • Cobain leads the team with 19 points on eight goals and 11 assists, which are also a team-high. Cobain is tied for third on the roster in goals.
  • Senior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) leads the Hawks with 11 goals while sitting in a tie for second on the squad with 13 points. Palmisano needs just five points to eclipse the 100-point threshold as she has netted 89 career goals and six assists.
  • Junior Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) is second on the Hawks in goals (9) and assists (4), putting her in a tie with Palmisano at 13 points.
  • Junior Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) ranks fourth on the squad with eight points, all coming from goals.
  • Palmisano and junior Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) have collected 15 and 11 draw controls apiece for the Hawks. Doyle leads the Hawks in both caused turnovers (7) and ground balls (8).
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) has started all three games in the cage for the Hawks this season and owns a 4.44 goals-against average and a 0.586 save percentage.
SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S
  • Catie Murphy registered four goals and three assists for seven points in the win over the Eagles.
  • Erin Stolz, Hope Alto, and Molly Gannon netted two goals apiece in the contest. Stolz ranks second on the team with three points, adding an assist to her two goals.
  • Sophia Lynch recorded two helpers in the season-opening win, trailing only Murphy in the early going.
  • Lynch earned a team-high five draw controls and was one of three student-athletes with two caused turnovers. Molly Carroll and Ellie Drinkwater joined Lynch with two caused turnovers.
  • Erin Boyd scooped a team-high four ground balls in the win.
  • Abby Cole and Hope Msumba split time in the cage for the Purple Knights on Monday. Cole, who recorded the start and made one save, owns a 10.00 goals-against average and a 0.167 save percentage while Msumba made four stops and holds a 0.667 save percentage and a 4.00 goals-against average.
SCOUTING SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE
  • Karlie Rowe holds the top spot on the Owls roster with nine points, coming from three goals and a team-high six assists.
  • Bayleigh Takacs and Kirsten McIntire are tied for the team lead at six goals apiece. Takacs is second on the team with eight points while McIntire is third with six points.
  • Brianna Shaw has collected a team-high 10 draw controls this season. Shaw has also added four goals and one assist for five points, joining Savannah Feinberg for a tie for fourth on the roster with five points.
  • Michela Rutigliano and Shaw have caused five turnovers apiece with Hannah Holmes scooping a team-high 10 ground balls this season.
  • Caelan Connors has started in all three games for the Owls this season. Connors has a total of 31 saves on 58 shots on goal, good for a 0.534 save percentage and an 8.87 goals-against average.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT MICHAEL'S, SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE
  • The Hawks and Purple Knights will be meeting for the 26th time in women's lacrosse on Wednesday. Saint Anselm is 15-10 in the all-time series.
  • Saint Anselm grabbed its fourth consecutive win over Saint Michael's by an 18-4 score on Mar. 22, 2022, marking the most recent meeting between the two programs.
  • The Hawks enjoy a 19-0 record all-time against the Owls, making Saturday's contest the 20th between the two sides.
  • Saint Anselm opened last season on Mar. 5, 2022 with a 17-6 win over Southern Connecticut State.
