CARY, N.C. - The Saint Anselm College baseball team dropped its final game of its trip to the USA Baseball Training Complex by an 11-8 score in 10 innings to D'Youville College on Sunday.
The Hawks drop to 2-12 on the season with the loss and will be back in action at Assumption University on Saturday, Mar. 11 and Sunday, Mar. 12 with a pair of non-conference doubleheaders. The Saints improve to 5-4 on their season.
Senior
Will Panarello (Barrington, R.I.) went three-for-five at the plate and drove in a game-high four runs in the contest. Senior
Mike Borrelli (Salisbury, Mass.) and sophomore
Daniel Scolaro (Quincy, Mass.) both recorded two hits apiece. Scolaro and junior
Nolan Elmore (Brentwood, N.H.) also chipped in with two runs batted in each.
For Borrelli, the senior has eclipsed the 100-career hits mark and sits at 101 in 89 career games on the Hilltop.

Dallas Vaughan (Haverhill, Mass.) allowed just two runs in six innings of work in his fourth start of the 2023 season. Senior

Griffin Tomaszycki (Taunton, Mass.), and sophomore
Zachary Abbott (Gloucester, Mass.) all saw action out the bullpen for Saint Anselm on the day.
The Saints posted the game's first run in the top of the first inning as
Billy Morris laced a one-out double which was followed by another double from
Ethan Hammond. Vaughan would work his way out of the inning with a fly out and a strikeout.
Saint Anselm loaded the bases in the bottom of the third inning but a fly out got D'Youville out of the jam.
The Hawks again loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Saints turned a double play following a pitching change to get out of the frame.
In the top of the fifth inning,
Alex Dzimian and Morris registered consecutive hits to lead off the frame, putting runners on second and third with no outs. However, Vaughan would get a pair of fly outs and ground out, avoiding the early inning trouble.
Saint Anselm took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth inning as Panarello slugged his second home run of the North Carolina trip and of the season over the left field fence, scoring senior
Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.) who kept the inning alive with a two-out single.
D'Youville tied the score in the top of the sixth inning at two on a double by Dzimian. The play brought home
Craig Oliver, who lead off the inning with a single.
A single and a pair of walks loaded the bases for Panarello. The senior would record a double down the right field line, which plated two runs to give the Hawks a 4-2 advantage.
The Saints responded with six runs in the top of the seventh, giving them a 8-4 lead.
Alec Boucher doubled which scored
Jeremy Glinski with
Jacob Cooper singling in the next at-bat to score two more runs. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Morris doubled which cleared the bases.
The Hawks would pick up four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning, tying the score at eight. Two walks and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for Scolaro who sent a double to left field, scoring two runs. Elmore followed with a two-run double of his own before a groundout closed the frame.
A double by Glinski gave the Saints a 10-8 lead in the top of the 10
th inning as he drove in Morris who singled and Hammond who walked. Later in the frame, Oliver was credited with a double, scoring Glinski.
The Hawks would load the bases once more in the bottom of the inning, looking to tie the score but a fly out would close the contest with D'Youville taking the first ever meeting between the two programs by an 11-8 score.
