MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 8 Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team suffered an 11-4 loss to No. 5 Adelphi University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday from Grappone Stadium.
With the loss, the Hawks, who are ranked eighth in the most recent United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association Division II National Poll, drop to 2-2 on the season with a 1-2 mark in NE10 play. The Panthers, who are fifth in the same poll, remain unbeaten at 7-0 overall and move to 3-0 in conference play.
The Panthers netted the game's opening goal at 10:55 of the first quarter on a goal from
Jason Rebaudo. However, the Hawks would net a pair of goals just 1:29 apart from each other coming from junior
Chase Lilly (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore
Will Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) as Saint Anselm took a 2-1 lead to the second quarter.
After a man-up goal from
Logan Tucker tied the score at two, senior
Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) gave the Hawks a 3-2 lead with just 1:09 left in the first half.
Adelphi needed just eight seconds to find the back of the cage to open the second half as Tucker netted his second goal of the game, which sparked a five-goal run in the third quarter. Senior
Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) ended streak at 2:06 of the third frame, which made the score to 7-4 in favor of the Panthers through three quarters of play.
The Panthers tacked on four more goals throughout the fourth quarter to pull away with the 11-4 win. Saint Anselm put four shots on goal in the final 15 minutes of regulation but Adelphi goalkeeper
Dylan Renner turned aside all four scoring chances.
Senior goalkeeper
David Olsen (Salem, N.H.) made seven saves in the game for the Hawks, compared to 14 for Renner.
The Hawks defense caused 12 Panthers turnovers with senior
Henry Alford (Southborough, Mass.), senior
Ethan Dolan (Littleton, Mass.), and junior
Jonathan Holland (Derry, N.H.) causing three turnovers each.
Junior
Chase Lilly (Trumbull, Conn.), freshman
Quinn Gannon (Scituate, Mass.), and Dolan grabbed four ground balls apiece in the contest.
Adelphi held a 37-32 advantage in shot attempts while both sides put 18 shots on goal. The Panthers capitalized on two-of-three extra man opportunities while the Hawks were scoreless in their two chances.
The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 28 when they battle crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire University from Grappone Stadium. The opening faceoff is slated for 4 p.m. with Queen City Cup points on the line.
