The Hawks improved to 6-0 on the season with a 21-4 win over the University of Charleston (W.V.) on Mar. 19. Saint Anselm is ranked No. 23 in the most recent ILWomen/IWLCA Division II National Women's Lacrosse Poll. Following the battle with the Yellow Jackets, Saint Anselm will remain at home and host crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, Mar. 29, starting at 7 p.m.
The Yellow Jackets posted a 13-12 non-conference win over the University of Bridgeport on Mar. 11, marking their most recent contest. The team enters Saturday with a 2-2 overall record and a 0-1 mark in conference play. The Yellow Jackets will host Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Mar. 29 for their next contest following the battle with the Hawks.
HAWKS NOTES
- The 2023 squad has joined the 2014 and 2021 teams as the only programs to start a season with a win in each of its first six games. The 2014 team posted eight consecutive wins to open its campaign, marking the longest streak to start a season.
- Senior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) became the 11th student-athlete in program history to reach the 100-career goals mark. Palmisano netted five goals and added three assists for eight points in the win over the Golden Falcons which is a career-high for assists and points in a single game.
- Palmisano is tied for fifth in the NE10 in goals at 22 this season. The senior ranks third on the Hawks roster with 28 points.
- Senior Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) and junior Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) have recorded 30 and 29 points each respectively this season, ranking one and two on the team.
- Cobain has scored 13 points and assisted on 17 others, which ranks second in the conference. Sullivan is tied for second on the roster with 18 goals and her 11 assists are second on the team.
- Junior Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) is tied with Sullivan with 18 goals this season. Ferullo also ranks second on the team in ground balls at 11, trailing only classmate Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) who has 15. Doyle is the Hawks leader with 11 caused turnovers this season with Ferullo right behind at 10.
- Palmisano and Doyle hold the top two spots on the Hawks roster in draw controls, coming in at 26 and 24 each respectively.
- Sophomore Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) has drawn a start in the goal for the Hawks in all six games. The sophomore owns a 4.70 goals-against average and has a 0.627 save percentage. Driscoll holds the NE10's top save percentage, lowest goals-against average, and lowest goals allowed (25).
SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
- Liz Day has netted 12 goals and added six assists for 18 points, all of which lead the Yellow Jackets offense.
- Kathryn Moody is second on the team in goals (8) and points (10). Sam Giordano, Isabelle Stone, and Gabrielle Walz are tied for third on the team with five goals apiece.
- Walz has scooped up a team-high seven ground balls with Moody and Madi Bis following closely with six each.
- Moody leads the roster with 12 draw controls while Antonella Mikolyuk is second with 11. Moody also leads the team with six caused turnovers.
- Marissa Long has started all four games in the cage for the Yellow Jackets. Long has made 41 saves and owns an 11.25 goals-against average and a 0.477 save percentage.
ALL-TIME vs. AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
- The Hawks and Yellow Jackets will be meeting for the 25th time in program history on Saturday and the second time in the 2023 season. Saint Anselm enjoys a 22-2 record against American International all-time in women's lacrosse.
- The programs opened the season on Feb. 18 in Springfield, Mass. with the Hawks coming away with a 16-7 non-conference win.
