Saint Anselm (10-11, 6-9 NE10) is coming off its third win in four games, a 74-64 victory over Pace this past Wednesday. The Hawks are presently out of the playoff picture but can climb back into the chase with a strong regular-season finish.
American International (14-9, 10-5 NE10), who came away with a 58-46 win over the Hawks on Thursday, Dec. 8, had won eight in a row prior to Saturday's 70-65 loss at New Haven. On Wednesday, the Yellow Jackets picked up a 53-49 win at nationally-ranked Assumption for the eighth "W" in a row.
Three of the final four regular-season games for Saint Anselm will be played on the road. Senior Day will be played against Saint Michael's on Saturday, Feb. 18 at 1:30 p.m.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- Saint Anselm completed the season sweep of Pace, the reigning NCAA Division II East Region Champions, on Wednesday, getting past the Setters by a 74-64 score in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium. Earlier in the season, the Hawks enjoyed a 61-37 road win versus the Setters.
- Against Pace as a team, the Hawks were 18-for-19 (94.7%) from the charity stripe, ranking in the top-10 in single-game history. Junior Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) led the way with a perfect five-for-five performance at the line, finishing with a game-high 21 points while adding eight rebounds.
- Versus the Setters, Saint Anselm shot over 50% from the floor for the fourth time this season, making 26-of-48 field goals in the victory. Both teams hauled in 27 rebounds but the Hawks had 15 of the game's 24 assists and led in paint points by a 20-to-6 margin in the game's first 20 minutes.
- Saint Anselm ranks 10th nationally in free throw percentage (78.6%). Turco leads the NE10 and ranks fifth nationally with a 91.2% rate (114-for-125), topping the NE10 with 114 made shots at the charity stripe. Her 87.4% career free throw percentage ranks second in team history.
- The Hawks commit just 13.8 turnovers per game, ranking 34th in the country and fourth in the NE10.
SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
- The Yellow Jackets enter play against the Hawks as the league-leaders in steals per game (10.5), turnover margin (+5.36) and turnovers forced per game (19.27). AIC ranks last in the league in offensive rebounds per game (9.0) and overall rebounds per game (32.41).
- Tia-Marie Martinez is the NE10's leader in assist-to-turnover margin (2.52) while Kayla Robinson's 2.5 steals per game leads the NE10. Taylor Tomlinson's 47.5% field goal percentage is second in the league behind New Haven's Aurora Deshaies (65.0%).
- Robinson has gotten to the line 154 times this season, ranking fifth in NCAA Division II and leading the NE10, but has made just 68.8% of her attempts there.
- The Yellow Jackets have won 14 games for just the second time in the last six seasons.
- Jen Peel '21, a four-year member of the Hawks basketball team, is serving as an Assistant Coach for Head Coach Kristen Hutchison. Peel joined the Yellow Jackets from UMass Boston where she served as an Assistant Coach in 2021-22.
ALL-TIME vs. AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
- Saint Anselm enjoys a 38-33 lead in the all-time series against American International.
- Ahead by a 39-34 margin with 4:11 to go in the third quarter in this season's earlier game against AIC, the Hawks made just one of their final 16 attempts from the floor, including an 0-for-13 mark in the final quarter of action. AIC scored 24 of the game's final 31 points, securing the victory.
- The Hawks had won eight in a row over the Yellow Jackets prior to the road loss earlier this season.
- Saint Anselm has won four in a row at home against American International.
