MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team had 12 student-athletes record at least one point on its way to a 5-0 win over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference play on Friday.
The Hawks improve to 15-9-2 on the season with a 10-4-1 mark against NE10 foes. The Purple Knights drop to 9-10-1 overall and 8-6-1 in conference battles. The teams will conclude their weekend series on Saturday, Feb. 4 with the opening puck drop slated for 4 p.m. Prior to the start of the contest, Saint Anselm will honor its six senior student-athletes with a pregame Senior Day ceremony.
Freshman
John Myers (White Plains, N.Y.) netted a pair of goals for the Hawks while junior
Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.), sophomore
Hunter Brackett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.), and freshman
Luke Linart (Holland, Mich.) netted one goal each in the contest. Linart added an assist to his goal to match Myers' two points.
Brackett got Saint Anselm on the scoreboard as he buried a rebound chance following a shot by junior
Alec Grace (Laguna Hills, Calif.) at 6:05 of the opening stanza.
Just 35 seconds later, Myers netted his first of the game following a point shot by senior
Mark Leach (Londonderry, N.H.). Myers quickly turned after collecting a loose puck and fired a snap shot into the upper left of the goal to give the Hawks a 2-0 edge.
At 4:55 of the second period, Linart drove into the attacking zone and slid a pass to Christensen in the high slot. The junior sent a wrist shot into the twine to extend the lead to three.
Myers would pot his second of the game at 13:30 of the middle frame. Sophomore
Richie Colarusso (Tewksbury, Mass.) sent a shot from the blue line that was redirected by freshman
Jack Devine (East Greenwich, R.I.) with Myers cashing in on a second deflection from the initial Colarusso shot.
Linart capped the scoring at 7:25 of the final period as he one-timed a shot off a feed from sophomore
Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.) on the power play to give the Hawks the 5-0 lead.
Senior netminder
Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) grabbed his 33rd career win and his fifth career shutout on Friday. The senior turned aside all 26 shots he faced.
Saint Anselm held a 39-26 advantage in shots on goal. Saint Michael's won 29-of-56 faceoffs in the tilt and blocked 17 shots compared to eight for the Hawks. The Purple Knights were scoreless in four power play chances while the Hawks were one-for-five with the extra skater.
