PREVIEW: Women's lacrosse heads to D'Youville for a non-conference battle on Sunday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 26 with a trip to Buffalo, N.Y. to meet D'Youville College in non-conference play.

The Hawks opened the 2023 season with a 16-7 win over American International on Feb. 18 and later improved to 2-0 in the early going of the season with an 18-3 win over the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs on Feb. 21. Following the battle with the Saints, Saint Anselm opens Northeast-10 Conference at Saint Michael's College on Wednesday, Mar. 8.

The Saints suffered an 18-12 loss to Georgian Court University on Feb. 19 in their season opening game. After hosting Saint Anselm, D'Youville will host Edinboro on Wednesday, Mar. 1 in its third-consecutive home game.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Junior Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) matched a career-high nine points in the win over the Mountain Lions, netting five goals and adding four assists in the contest. Through the opening two games, Sullivan is tied for the team lead with seven goals and is second with four assists, bringing her to 11 points.
  • Senior Taylor Cobain (East Greenwich, R.I.) leads the Hawks in assists (7) and points (12). The senior has scored five goals on the season which is third on the team. Cobain needs just two points to reach 100 for her collegiate career. The senior has netted 74 goals and assisted on 24 others in 38 career games.
  • Senior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) went for six points (4 G, 2 A) in the season-opening win and later added three goals against Colorado Springs. Palmisano is tied for the team lead with seven goals and is third in points with nine. With nine more points, Palmisano can also reach the 100 career point mark. In 32 games on the Hilltop, Palmisano has scored 85 goals and assisted on six others.
  • Junior Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) has caused a team-high five turnovers and has scooped up a team-high seven ground balls.
  • Palmisano has collected nine draw controls, the most on the Hawks roster through two games, while three other student-athletes have grabbed four. Saint Anselm holds a 29-20 advantage in draw controls.
  • Sophomore Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) has started both games in the goal for the Hawks. She has stopped 10 of 16 shots on goal, good for a 0.625 save percentage and a 3.52 goals-against average.
SCOUTING D'YOUVILLE
  • Madison Buck and Sydney Gordon went for five points each in the season opening loss to Georgian Court. Buck netted a pair of goals and registered three helpers while Gordon scored three and assisted on two.
  • Madison Handley found the back of the cage four times on five shots on goal and grabbed a team-high six draw controls in the opener.
  • Sam Newlin added three goals for the Saints offense. Newlin attempted seven shots on Sunday, which was tied for a team-high.
  • Handley and Lauren Parker caused one turnover each for D'Youville with Gordon and Amanda Waliszewski claiming two ground balls apiece.
  • Brinn Stworzydlak made four saves in the goal for the Saints. She enters play against the Hawks with an 18.00 goals-against average and a 0.182 save percentage.

  • This will be the first meeting between the two programs all-time.
