Saint Anselm carries a 12-13 overall record into play. The Hawks have posted an 8-11 record against Northeast-10 Conference opponents and are coming off a convincing 56-27 victory over Saint Michael's on Saturday.

New Haven (16-9, 11-8 NE10) has sprinted out to a 10-3 record at home this season with just a 6-6 record in games played away from Charger Gymnasium. Earlier this season, Saint Anselm pulled out a 60-51 win over the Chargers on Saturday, Jan. 7.

Presently ranked eighth in the NE10, a victory by Saint Anselm would lock down a First Round home game for the Hawks. Each team in the conference will make the playoffs in 2022-23, but only the top eight teams can secure home-court advantage for their first postseason game.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • The Hawks captured a 56-27 victory over visiting Saint Michael's on Saturday in Northeast-10 Conference play. Sophomore Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) led the Hawks with a team-high 12 points to go along with three rebounds.
  • Saint Anselm conceded just 27 points in the game, the seventh-fewest points it has ever allowed in a single contest. The Hawks previously allowed 27 or fewer points against Georgian Court on Dec. 5, 1998. Five of the first seven games in team history with 27 points allowed or fewer came in the first 11 games in team history (1976-78).
  • On defense, Saint Anselm held the Purple Knights to just 27.3% (12-44) shooting from the field, including 14.3% from beyond the arc, while also converting 24 points off Saint Michael's turnovers. The Hawks shot 48.9% from the floor, converting on six-of-13 three-point attempts. As a team, Saint Anselm dished out 12 assists on 22 made field goals.
  • Saint Anselm leads the NE10 and is ranked 13th in NCAA Division II in free throw shooting, making 77.6% of its attempts at the charity stripe this season.
  • Junior Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) has made 90.6% of her free throws this season, ranking ninth in the nation. Her 125 made free throws ranks 13th nationally and she is 45th in attempts (138).

SCOUTING NEW HAVEN

  • The Chargers leads the NE10 in field goal percentage (43.8) and rebound margin (+7.4). New Haven also ranks fourth in the league in offensive rebounds per game (11.0) and winning percentage (64.0%).
  • Aurora Deshaies ranks eighth nationally in rebounds per game (10.7), 11th in offensive boards per game (3.9), and 13th in rebounds (268). Camryn DeBose ranks fifth in the NE10 in points per game (15.7).
  • New Haven has struggled from beyond the arc across its last three games, shooting 11-for-53 (20.8%). Last time out, in a 32-point loss to Le Moyne, the team was just 4-for-18 (22.2%) from three-point distance.
  • Against the Hawks earlier in the season, the Chargers conceded 25 of the final 35 points in the game to drop a nine-point contest. Saint Anselm matched a program record for free throw percentage, making all 14 of its free throws for the first time since a neutral-site tilt against Fort Hays State (Dec. 19, 2019).
  • The perfect rate (min. 14 attempts) at the charity stripe for Saint Anselm had only been accomplished once before, at home against Southern New Hampshire on Dec. 21, 2008.

ALL-TIME vs. NEW HAVEN

  • Saint Anselm owns a 17-12 edge in the 29-game series against New Haven, having won each of the last four games. In the 2020 NE10 postseason, the Hawks came away with a 55-44 victory over the Chargers in the league's quarterfinal round.
  • New Haven won the NCAA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship in 1987.
