CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The New England Football Writers (NEFW) announced their annual award list for the 2023 season featuring Saint Anselm College head coach
Joe Adam as the recipient of the Division II/III Coach of the Year, as announced by the organization on Monday.
Â
Adam is the first Saint Anselm coach to receive an award from the New England Football Writers after guiding the team to another successful season on the Hilltop. The Hawks posted back-to-back winning campaigns for the first time in modern-day program history wrapping up the year with a 6-4 overall record. Saint Anselm also achieved program bests after earning a 5-2 Northeast-10 Conference record to finish second in the league standings.
Â
A key component in Saint Anselm's success this season came from the defense which ranked in the top-10 in multiple statistical categories. The Hawks capped off the regular season tied for third in fumbles recovered (13), sixth in first downs allowed (136), 10th in blocked kicks (6), 10th in opposing third-down conversion percentage (26.9%), and 11th in blocked punts (3). The stout Saint Anselm defense allowed just 142.4 passing yards per game, the seventh-best figure in the nation.
Â
Adam was later named the 2023 NE10 Coach of the Year for the first time in his eight-year tenure at Saint Anselm, becoming just the second coach in program history to receive the honor.
