MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team's three-game unbeaten streak was snapped by Bowdoin College, 7-2, on Sunday afternoon during a non-conference clash. The Hawks are now 3-8-2 this season while the Polar Bears improved to a 5-2-1 overall record.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Hawks got on the attack early in the opening period of the game, outshooting the Polar Bears 5-1 in the first couple of minutes. At the 3:41 mark, James Cerepak wristed a quick shot into the top right corner to put Bowdoin up 1-0. Shortly after, the Polar Bears doubled their lead after Joesph Zheng scored at the 4:28 mark to make it 2-0.
- The Polar Bears continued to extend their advantage following an unassisted goal by Wierl Mattingly to go ahead 3-0. A few minutes later, Saint Anselm got on the scoreboard thanks to a goal by sophomore Garret Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) approaching the midway point of the period. Freshman goalie Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) registered five more stops in the period to keep the score at 3-1 heading into the first intermission.
- Senior Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.) started the second period by ripping a shot on target that Bowdoin goalie Alex Kozic was able to save. With just over a minute into the period, Michael Dinges furthered the Polar Bears lead to 4-1 after netting his first score of the afternoon. Shortly after, Saint Anselm went on the man advantage following a cross-checking penalty on Bowdoin. Juniors Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.) and Mark Blaney (Braintree, Mass.) each posted a shot apiece, but the Polar Bears would kill the third Saint Anselm power play of the day.
- At the 7:24 mark, Bowdoin Dinges notched his second goal of the game to push the Polar Bears lead to 5-1. Carroll produced another three saves during the halfway point of the second period, but Jackson Holl joined in on the scoring for Bowdoin to make it 6-1 by the end of the second period.
- Saint Anselm responded early in the third period earning another power play opportunity just four minutes into the period. Junior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) was quick to redirect his initial shot past Kozic tallying his fifth goal of the season and bringing the score to 6-2. Both teams continued to exchange shots as the period progressed until Jesse Lycan scored an unassisted goal at the 11:03 mark to give Bowdoin a five-goal cushion. Saint Anselm registered six more shot attempts in the final minutes of the game featuring three by Burum, but the Polar Bears would cement the 7-2 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Bowdoin outshot Saint Anselm by a 31-22 margin and held an 8-3 advantage in total blocked shots.
- The Hawks went 1-for-6 on the man advantage while the Polar Bears were unable to convert any goals during their three power-play opportunities.
- Alberti and Burum tallied the only two goals for the Hawks as Burum now leads the squad with five scores on the season.
- Sophomore Will Rosen (Washington, D.C.) earned his first collegiate assist as a Hawk while junior Will van der Veen (Duxbury, Mass.) also dished out an assist.
- Carroll registered 12 saves and allowed six goals in net for Saint Anselm after playing over 30 minutes. Sophomore Tucker Hanson (Boxford, Mass.) made his season debut after checking in midway through the second period posting 12 saves and allowing one goal.
- This marked the 60th meeting between these two programs as Bowdoin secured their 43rd win in the all-time series against Saint Anselm.
