HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Hawks got on the scoreboard early after junior Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) lasered a shot past Post goalie Zach Richards to take a quick 1-0 advantage under two minutes into the game.
  • Shortly after, Saint Anselm went on the power play following a tripping penalty on Ryan Mosher at the 2:56 mark. Senior captain Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) doubled the Hawks' lead off a helper from Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.) during the man advantage.
  • Freshman goalie Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley,  N.Y.) finally faced his first shot of the afternoon ten minutes into the contest, denying Nick Brewer on a scoring chance. Carroll went on to make four saves in a shutout first period of action.
  • Saint Anselm started the second period firing off seven shots, forcing three saves from Richards. Post earned their third power play opportunity of the day after senior captain Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.) was whistled for a holding call at 7:57 of the second period. The Eagles capitalized on the man advantage, cutting the Hawks' lead in half with a score from Conner Murray towards the end of the power play.
  • About two minutes later, the Eagles tied the game up on another power play chance at the 17:46 mark thanks to a Ryan Cardow tally. The game would remain tied at 2-2 heading into the final period.
  • Burum found the back of the net once again in the opening six minutes of the third period to help Saint Anselm regain a 3-2 lead. At the 14:09 mark, the Hawks were called for another penalty, giving the Eagles their first power play opportunity of the period. Senior Liam Lyons (Gloucester, Mass.) had a breakaway after stealing the puck at the Hawks blue line and slotted the puck past Richards for the short-handed goal, putting Saint Anselm ahead 4-2. Post answered just a few moments later with seconds remaining in their power play to make it a 4-3 game.
  • Junior Mark Blaney (Braintree, Mass.) would score on an empty net followed shortly by a goal from senior Alec Grace (Laguna Hill, Calif.) in the final two minutes of the period to seal the 6-3 victory over Post.
