Freshman goalie Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) registered 13 saves in the opening 10 minutes of the first period to keep Assumption off the scoreboard. Freshman Will van der Veen (Duxbury, Mass. ) tallied two shots midway through the period followed by another shot attempt by Schwartz. The Greyhounds outshot the Hawks by a 10-7 margin for the remainder of the period, but the game would stay scoreless heading into the second period.
  • Assumption wasted no time in the second with Nathan Palumbo ripping a quick shot on frame forcing a save from Carroll in the first 20 seconds of the period. Not too long after, the Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead at the 4:18 mark following a score by Jonathan Surrette. Although Saint Anselm continued to push their attack ripping five late shots in the final five minutes of the period, the Greyhounds would hold onto their one-goal advantage to end period two.
  • Senior Alec Grace (Laguna Hills, Calif.) broke the Hawks' score drought at the 5:22 mark of the third period to tie the game at 1-1 off the assist from Schwartz. Both teams exchanged shots midway before Schwartz found the back of the net in the 13th minute to give Saint Anselm their first lead of the game. Assumption answered by posting the only nine shots for the next six minutes forcing six more saves from Carroll along with three blocks. After the Greyhounds emptied their net to get an extra attacker, Leo Piandes would tally a goal to level the score at 2-2 and force the game into overtime.
  • Saint Anselm notched four shots in the overtime period featuring two shots from senior Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.), however, Assumption would cement the 3-2 victory following a score from John Woernle.
