HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman goalie Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) was tested early in the game after denying a shot by Cameron Craig in the opening three minutes of the first period. The Eagles took a 1-0 edge at the 9:28 mark after Connor Barter found the back of the net off the assist from Trey DeLoury. Senior Liam Lyons (Gloucester, Mass.) and junior Will Van Der Veen (Duxbury, Mass.) each registered a shot on target a few minutes later that Post goalie Zach Richards was able to save.
- After a quiet start to the second period, the Hawks tied the game up at the 11:29 mark thanks to junior Hunter Brackett (Harwick Port, Mass.) notching his first goal of the season off the assist from Van Der Veen. About five minutes later, Saint Anselm snagged a 2-1 lead with senior Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) slotting the puck past Richards for his first of the year.
- The Hawks continued to push their attack early in the third period, firing off three shots in the opening two minutes of play. At the 8:08 mark, Craig would even the score at 2-2 off a feed from Barter. Although Saint Anselm would outshoot Post by a 16-11 margin for the remainder of the period, neither side could find the back of the net, sending the game into overtime.
- The Eagles had two dangerous scoring chances early in the overtime period, however, Carroll would make two big stops to keep the score level. Junior Mark Blaney (Braintree, Mass.) and senior Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.) each ripped a shot on frame while Schwartz tallied two shots on target, but the game would end in a 2-2 draw following the scoreless overtime period.
