Men's Ice Hockey Falls at LIU, 4-0

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team dropped to 0-2 on the season with a 4-0 loss to NCAA Division I independent Long Island University (LIU) on Saturday at Northwell Health Ice Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • LIU struck first with Remy Parker's goal at the 7:55 mark of the game's opening period. The Sharks tacked on another with 1:40 remaining in the opening stanza to take a 2-0 lead courtesy of Nolan Welsh's marker.
  • Sharks forward Chris Pappas tallied an unassisted score with 2:34 remaining in the game's second frame, extending the LIU lead to 3-0, before Josh Zary finished off the scoring on a power play goal by LIU early in the third.


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Saint Anselm freshman goaltender Cam Carroll (Putnam Valley, N.Y.) tallied 53 saves on the evening, suffering the loss for the second evening in a row.
  • LIU out-shot the Hawks 115-28 overall, with 57-17 in shots on net, but Carroll kept Saint Anselm in the contest all evening, surrendering just four scores.
  • Sophomore Jamison Alicandro (Shrewsbury, Mass.) recorded six total shots, with two on target, while senior captain Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) and senior Alec Grace (Laguna Hills, Calif.) each recorded three shots on net in the loss.
  • The Sharks improve to 4-0 against the Hawks all-time, having won by a combined 23-1 in the four contests.
