Kaitlin Brown (Glendale, Ariz.) had a team-high 16 kills as the Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team defeated The College of Saint Rose, 3-1, in conference play on Friday evening. The Hawks took down the Golden Knights by set scores of 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, and 25-20 to secure their 12th win of the season.

- The Hawks are on the road for two matches next weekend, traveling to Springfield, Massachusetts to take on American International College on Friday, October 27th and then Garden City, New York to take on Adelphi University on Saturday, October 28th.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After the Golden Knights tied the first set at 3-3, the Hawks generated a 7-2 run featuring kills by freshmen Sam Pila (Melbourne, Australia), Melis Kocak (East Greenwich, R.I.), and Hollyn Frano (Cave Creek, Ariz.) to make it 10-5. Seniors Kaitlin Brown (Glendale, Ariz.) and Audrey Wetjen (Henderson, Nev.) tallied their first kills of the night to help extend Saint Anselm's advantage to 16-11. Saint Rose made it a two-point game late in the set but Saint Anselm sealed ghe first set win, 25-19, thanks to a pair of kills from Wetjen and a service ace by junior Jada Burdier (Haverhill, Mass.).
- Frano and Burdier opened set two with early aces to give the Hawks a 5-2 lead. Saint Anselm shortly after would connected three points after Brown, Frano and Kocak each fired a kill apiece to make it 9-5. The Golden Knights fought back midway through set going on a 6-3 run to narrow the Hawks lead to 12-11. Brown answered with back-to-back kills followed by a kill from Pila to make it 15-11. Saint Anselm secured the second set victory with the help of a 10-3 run highlighted by senior Emma Adams (Gary, Texas), Wetjen, and Frano who were responsible for three of the final four points of the set.
- A pair of kills from Teresa Moulder helped give the Golden Knights a 5-2 advantage to start the third set of the match. Adam's kill would tie the set at 5-5 before Saint Rose pulled away again going up 9-7. After Karleigh Fripp evened the score at 10-10 with her kill, Brown would notch a kill and block along with Wetjen to regain a 14-11 lead. Saint Rose continued to battled late in the set building an 8-2 run to take a 22-19 advantage. Frano nocthed a kill to make it 23-22 however the Golden Knights would take the 25-23 win in the third set.
- Once again, Saint Rose jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead to begin the fourth set of the match. A 5-2 run by the Hawks would tie the set at 7-7 featuring kills by Brown, Adams, and Frano along with an ace by Pila. Saint Anselm then connected six straight points highlighted by a service ace from fifth-year Caroline Belmontez (San Diego, Calif.) to make it 13-8. The Golden Knights responded by generating a 5-1 run narrowing the Hawks advantage to just one point midway through the set. Once again, Saint Anselm strung five consecutive points together thanks to a pair of kills from Brown and an ace by Frano to pull away with a 19-13 lead. Saint Rose continued to fight towards the end but Saint Anselm cemented the victory after defeating the Golden Knights 25-20 in the fourth set.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Brown led the team with 16 kills along with eight digs and block. Close behind was Frano ending the night with 13 kills and a season-high 18 digs.
- On the passing effort, Pila dished out 34 assists as well as a season-high four kills for the freshman setter.
- Belmontez finished the match with 17 digs on the defense end while Wetjen tallied six total blocks for the Hawks.
- This marked the 26th meeting between the two programs with Saint Anselm now holding a 15-11 lead against Saint Rose in the all-time series.

Players from both sides wore pink warm-up t-shirts and made signs to show their support of Breast Cancer Awareness.
