SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team fell to American International College (AIC), 3-0, during a Northeast-10 Conference (NE10) match on Friday evening. The Hawks fall to 3-3 in conference play with the loss to the Yellow Jackets, who improve to a 5-2 league record.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- After freshman Hollyn Frano (Cave Creek, Ariz.) opened the scoring for the Hawks with a kill, the Yellow Jackets shortly jumped out to a 4-2 lead thanks to a pair of kills from Kristina Peric. A kill apiece from seniors Kaitlin Brown (Glendale, Ariz.) and Emma Adams (Gary, Texas) helped tie the first set at 5-5. Saint Anselm fell behind 11-8 before generating a 5-2 run to even the score at 13-13. Both teams continued to exchange points with Brown tying the set with a kill to make it 22-22, but AIC would take the 1-0 advantage after winning by a final score of 25-23.
- The Yellow Jackets took a quick 7-0 lead to start the second set of the match. A kill from the Hawks briefly disrupted their momentum before going on a 10-1 run to secure an 18-3 lead. Fifth-year Caroline Belmontez (San Diego, Calif. ) tallied her first ace of the match, followed by a kill from freshman Sam Pila (Melbourne, Australia). However, the Yellow Jackets went on to win set two by a 25-8 final score.
- Adams started the third set by registering a kill for Saint Anselm. After AIC took an 8-5 lead off a kill from Peric, sophomore Abigail Macalaguim (Chula Vista, Calif.) dished out a service ace to make it 8-7, AIC. Midway through the set, the Hawks went on a 6-1 run featuring a kill from freshman Melis Kocak (East Greenwich, R.I.) and three kills by Frano to give Saint Anselm a 14-12 lead. Another kill from Adams extended the Hawks advantage to 18-16, but the Yellow Jackets would connect on seven consecutive points late in the third set to seal their 3-0 victory, winning set three 25-20.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Brown led the Hawks in kills with 10 to go along with 14 digs, two blocks, and an assist. Frano followed with seven kills, eight digs, and an assist.
- On the passing effort, Pila dished out 18 assists as well as a block while Macalaguim registered five assists in the match.
- Belmontez ended the day with 14 total digs and a service ace.
