HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The match got off to a fast start, with both sides earning quality chances in the opening minutes. Saint Anselm got the first two shots on goal of the game in the first three minutes, one apiece by senior Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) and junior Riley DiGilio (Danvers, Mass.), forcing two quick saves to be made by Assumption goalkeeper Frida Larrson.
  • Assumption got their first good opportunity in the fifth minute when Haleigh Ward's long distnace shot drifted high in the air and bounced off the cross-bar before going out of play.
  • The Hawks began to take control midway through the first half and put pressure on the Greyhound defense with three more shots and a corner kick. DiNapoli opened the scoring for Saint Anselm with her first collegiate goal just six minutes before halftime. McCleary slipped a brilliant pass behind the back line that DiNapoli was able to lace one-time past Larrson and into the top right corner of the net to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
  • The Greyhounds put one shot on target before the break, but Chelsea Hoey's shot was saved comfortably by freshman goalkeeper Maggie Warner (Saugus, Mass.).
  • Saint Anselm continued to assert their dominance early in the second half, firing off the first eight shots of the period, two of which were saved by Larrson.
  • Assumption began to increase their pressure in the final half hour of the match and took more chances going forward. In the 87th minute, Saint Anselm committed a foul in their own penalty box following a deep Assumption throw-in, resulting in a Greyhound penalty kick. Ashley Wenzel stepped up to take the shot and found the back of the net to even the game at one goal apiece.
  • The intensity increased in the final three minutes, but neither side could find the game-winner as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
