MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's volleyball team triumphed over crosstown rivals Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) during a non-conference match on Saturday by a final score of 4-1. The Hawks took down the Penmen by set scores of 26-24, 16-25, 25-23, and 26-24 to secure their 11th win of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hawks jumped to a 6-4 lead in the opening set with seniors Kaitlin Brown (Glendale, Ariz.) and Audrey Wetjen (Henderson, Nev.) tallying a kill and freshman Frano Hollyn (Cave Creek, Ariz.) posting a pair of kills. Both teams exchanged points midway through the set until senior Emma Adams (Gary, Texas) notched her first kill of the day to make it 14-10. The Penmen kept the score within striking distance and rallied back with a late 5-0 run to tie the set at 24-24. Frano put the Hawks back at set point with her kill and would secure the 26-24 win after an attacking error by the Penmen.
- In the second set, SNHU went ahead 3-1 after a kill by Dai Thawnghmung. Following a kill from freshman Melis Kocak (East Greenwich, R.I.) to make it 4-3 Penmen, Eyleen Dias posted a kill to extend SNHU's advantage to 9-5. After a 6-1 run from the Penmen made it 15-8 midway through the set, Kocak and Frano each registered kills to disrupt SNHU's momentum, but Penmen's Ana Pimenta would tally three kills to capture the second set victory by a set score of 25-16.
- After going down 4-3 early in the third set, Saint Anselm connected four points in a row featuring two aces from Brown to put the Hawks up 7-4. Brown would later hit back-to-back kills to keep the Penmen at bay at 12-9. A 5-2 run highlighted by Adams with a pair of kills from Adams and an ace by Pila furthered Saint Anselm's advantage to 17-13. The Hawks took a 22-16 lead thanks to a kill from Frano, however the Penemn fought back generating a late 6-2 to make it 24-23 Hawks. Kocak would fire a kill to cement the third set win, 25-23, and take a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set.
- SNHU started the fourth set ahead 9-3 which was helped by a 6-0 run early in the set. The Hawks quickly answered by going on 10-1 run to take back a 14-13 advantage. Shortly after the Penmen jumped ahead 20-15 following a 7-1 run, Frano kicked off a 7-2 run for the Hawks to help tie the set at 22-22. Saint Anselm sealed the victory over SNHU after junior Jada Burdier (Haverhill, Mass.) lasered an ace on match point to win the final set 26-24.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Brown led the team with 17 kills along with six digs, two aces, and two blocks. Frano also ended the day in double-digits for kills with 13 as well as five digs, three aces, and a block.
- On the passing effort, Pila posted 36 assists for the Hawks along with 10 digs and five blocks.
- On the defensive end, fifth-year Caroline Belmontez (San Diego, Calif.) finished the match with 16 digs and 5 assists.
