HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Saint Anselm applied the pressure early, earning a corner kick less than one minute into the match. The shot by senior Delaney Glode (Kennebunkport, Maine) was sent over the cross-bar and out of play.
  • American International responded on the attack in the fourth minute, forcing the first save of the game to be made by freshman goalkeeper Maggie Warner (Saugus, Mass.).
  • The Hawks put their first shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the strike by junior Riley DiGilio (Danvers, Mass.) was stopped by Yellow Jacket goalkeeper Sara Avery. Senior captain Tara McCleary also ripped a shot on goal from outside the box in the 21st minute, forcing Avery into action again for her second save of the match.
  • Saint Anselm started to take control of the game, registering several shots and numerous corner kicks throughout the remainder of the half. However, the game was flipped on its head in the 33rd minute when sophomore Devan Sherry (Gorham, Maine) was sent off with a straight red card after a questionable call was made just outside the Hawks' penalty box. Saint Anselm was forced to play the remainder of the match with 10 players.
  • AIC started to put the pressure on for the remainder of the half, forcing two more saves out of Warner before the halftime break.
  • Both sides exchanges offensive opportunities to open the second half. Junior Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) put a shot on target for Saint Anselm, while Hannah Storozuk also had a strike on frame for AIC, both of which were stopped by the opposing goalkeeper.
  • The best opportunity of the game for the Hawks came in the 62nd minute when Pecor slipped a pass through the Yellow Jacket defense that DiGilio sprinted after. DiGilio drove towards goal and set up a breakaway chance, but Avery made a diving save to keep the game scoreless.
  • Charlotte Bernard nearly put AIC in front with just over 20 minutes to play with a dangerous looking strike from the top of the box, but Warner made a diving save to keep the shutout intact. Warner also came out to deny a breakaway opportunity from AIC's Sydney Mercier just a few minutes later.
  • In the 74th minute, the Yellow Jackets almost found a goal again, but the header from Gabby Williams off a corner kick hit the cross-bar and was cleared away.
  • Junior Allison Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) got the final shot of the game off for Saint Anselm with two minutes left, but Avery collected it and the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
