HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Adelphi had more possession than Saint Anselm for the majority of the first half, but the Panthers did not create too many threatening chances on offense. Adelphi fired off the game's first four shots on goal, but all were from outside the box and were saved by sophomore goalkeeper David Hood (Manchester, N.H.).
  • The Hawks earned a great offensive chance stemming from a counter-attack in the 20th minute. A through ball was sent forward for junior Caden Leader (Durham, N.H.) who tracked it down in the corner and passed it back to junior Michael Provenzano (Stratham, N.H.). The left back then served in a low cross that made its way junior James Poschmann (Bedford, N.H.) who made a one-touch lay off to his classmate Lucas Bravo Ollé (Sitges, Barcelona, Spain) inside the Adelphi penalty area. Bravo Ollé made a hesitation move to cut to his right and appeared to be taken down inside the box by a Panther defender, but no call was made.
  • The Panthers continued the pressure in the attacking half and their efforts paid off 25 seconds before halftime. Aleksei Armas served in a low ball right in from of the Saint Anselm goal that his teammate, Richard DeBrosse, pounded home to put Adelphi ahead just before the hafltime whistle.
  • Saint Anselm started the second half on the front foot with junior Andrew Kubinski getting down the right wing and into Adelphi territory, but his shot hit the outside of the net and went out for a goal kick.
  • In the 50th minute, Hood made his best save of the match, denying Adelphi's Victor Castel in a one-on-one breakaway to keep his side in the game.
  • Five minutes later, the Hawks nearly found the equalizer when freshman Connor Lovely (Weymouth, Mass.) looped in a high-arcing ball in front of the Panthers goal that found an open Bravo Ollé, but the junior's one touch shot was sent over the net. Provenzano also ripped a shot from distance for the Hawks in the 60th minute, but missed the frame just high.
  • Junior Samuel Assantha (Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo) orchestrated a counter-attack for Saint Anselm in the 81st minute, but his whistling shot was grabbed by Adelphi goalkeeper Daniel De La Heras.
  • Hood made two more saves before Adelphi sealed the game with five minutes remaining. Armas whipped in another cross that Castel headed up and over Hood to put the Panthers ahead, 2-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Adelphi outshot Saint Anselm 14-5 in the game, while also holding an 8-1 advantage in shots on goal.
