HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Prior to the match, the captains from Saint Anselm and Saint Michael's came together for a short pregame ceremony as part of the annual Community Cup Match. Both teams made donations to the Montpelier Strong Recovery Fund, an organization currently helping the local community recover and rebuild from recent catastrophic floodings.
- Saint Michael's netted the game's opening goal just under nine minutes into the match. Mikel Penin collected a loose ball on top of the Saint Anselm box and drove towards goal before smashing a shot into the back of the net to put the Purple Knights ahead, 1-0.
- The Purple Knights would continue their pressure, forcing Saint Anselm senior goalkeeper Alejandro Correal (Bogotá, Colombia) to make three saves in the first half. Saint Michael's added to their lead in the 19th minute when Amos Schramm found Nino Scolieri in front for a tap in shot from close distance.
- Saint Anselm started to come alive during the second part of the first half. Junior Caden Leader (Durham, N.H.) came off the bench and provided an offensive impact, firing three shots for the Hawks, including one that hit the outside of the right goalpost in the 42nd minute. However, none of Saint Anselm's strikes got past Purple Knights goalkeeper Liam Barrett.
- Saint Anselm earned several fast-break opportunities in the second half, but could not cash in. Saint Michael's scored an insurance goal with 21 minutes to play when Schramm volleyed home a shot to the lower right corner to put his side ahead, 3-0.
