MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss to visiting Post University on Friday.
The Hawks fall to 13-9-1 overall with the loss and to 8-5-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play while the Eagles improve to 6-15-0 on the season and 4-9-0 in conference contests. The teams will conclude their two-game weekend series from Sullivan Arena on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Senior
Chris Lemay (Salem, N.H.) and junior
Leonard Brochu III (Concord, N.H.) netted one goal each for Saint Anselm in the tilt. Junior
Liam Lyons (Gloucester, Mass.) and sophomore
Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.) were credited with one assist each.
Lemay got the scoring started at 14:31 of the first period. The senior forced a turnover with a big hit at the Eagles blue line and converted on the breakaway chance to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Brochu III doubled the Saint Anselm advantage at 5:24 of the second period when he buried a cross-ice pass from Lyons for his third goal of the season and his second in as many games.
Post would strike twice just 1:21 apart from each other in the second period.
Jake Aloi got the Eagles on the scoreboard as he won a race to a loose puck in the Hawks defensive zone and slapped a shot into the upper right of the goal.
Nick Weber would capitalize on a rebound chance which knotted the score at two headed to the second intermission.
Nick Brewer fired a long shot from the point through traffic on the power play to give Post a 3-2 lead at 7:15 of the third period.
Senior co-alternate captain
Jack Murphy (Marshfield, Mass.) nearly tied the score at three at 15:36 of the final regulation period but his shot rang off the post.
The Eagles would extend the lead to two on an empty-net goal by Aloi, pushing them to the 4-2 score.
The Hawks held a 44-30 edge in shots on goal and won 47 of the game's 75 faceoffs, led by senior co-captain
Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.) who had 16 wins. Saint Anselm was scoreless in its three power play chances while Post was one-for-five with the extra skater.

Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) stopped 26 of 29 shots on goal he faced in the tilt while
Drew Blodgett made 42 saves in the Eagles goal.
