The Hawks, who hold the top spot in the NE10 standings with 22 points, skated to a 6-2 non-conference win over Framingham State in the final game of a four-game home stand on Jan. 17. With the win, Saint Anselm improved to 12-7-1 on the season with a 7-3-1 mark in conference play. The Hawks will host Post on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 to close out the month of January.
The Greyhounds swept a weekend series from Southern New Hampshire by 6-3 and 1-0 scores on Jan. 13 and Jan. 14. Assumption sits at 11-8-0 overall and holds a 7-3-0 mark in NE10 contests which puts them in second in the standings at 21 points. The team will battle Franklin Pierce on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 following the pair with the Hawks.
HAWKS NOTES
- Senior co-captain Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.) and junior Liam Lyons (Gloucester, Mass.) netted two goals each in the Hawks win over the Rams. Five Hawks posted multi-point games in that contest.
- Andary ranks second in the conference with 19 points. Andary's 10 goals lead the team and are second most in the NE10 while his nine assists are tied for 12th.
- Senior co-captain Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.) has netted six goals and added 10 assists for 16 points. Hayes is second on the team in assists and points and when compared to the NE10 he is tied for sixth in helpers and tied for fifth in points.
- Senior co-alternate captain Jack Murphy (Marshfield, Mass.) leads the conference with 14 assists. Murphy is tied with sophomore Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.) and junior co-alternate captain Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) for third on the team in points at 14.
- Freshman Will Rosen (Washington, D.C.) was named one of 15 nominees for the prestigious Hockey Humanitarian Award on Jan. 18.
- Senior Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) reached his 30th career win against Franklin Pierce on Jan. 13, becoming just the fourth men's ice hockey student-athlete to reach that mark.
- On the season, Howard leads the NE10 with a 2.76 goals-against average and is third in save percentage at 0.913. The senior has started 17 games in 2022-23 and owns a 10-6-1 record.
- The Hawks power play is operating at 15.2%, netting 10 goals on 66 chances. The penalty kill sits at an 88.6% kill rate, allowing just nine goals in 79 times shorthanded. The Hawks penalty kill rate is the best mark in the conference.
SCOUTING ASSUMPTION
- Christopher Stalmok leads the Greyhounds offense with eight goals scored this season. Ronny Paragallo is second on the squad with seven goals.
- Colin Philippon is tied for second in the NE10 with 13 assists this season. Philippon also ranks third in the conference with 18 points, adding five goals to his 13 helpers.
- Mike D'Ambrosio, who was also named a nominee from the Hockey Humanitarian Award, ranks second on the team with 16 points coming from five goals and 11 assists. D'Ambrosio is tied for fifth in the conference in points.
- Drew Benedict has started 10 games for the Greyhounds this season. He has a 0.894 save percentage to go with a 3.44 goals-against average. Benedict is 7-3-0 this season.
- The Assumption power play sits at 20.9%. The team has netted 19 goals in 91 power play chances while the penalty kill has allowed 24 goals in 109 times shorthanded, good for a 78.0% penalty kill rate.
ALL-TIME vs. ASSUMPTION
- The Hawks and Greyhounds will be meeting for the 48th and 49th times in the all-time series on Friday and Saturday. Saint Anselm enjoys a 33-11-3 record against Assumption in men's ice hockey.
- The teams split a weekend series at Sullivan Arena earlier this season on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12. The Greyhounds posted a 7-4 win in the Nov. 11 battle before the Hawks responded with a 5-2 win the following day.
