PREVIEW: Men's ice hockey to host three games in five days

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team is set for three games in five days, starting with a Northeast-10 Conference battle against in-state foe Franklin Pierce University on Friday, Jan. 13.

The Hawks will welcome NCAA Division I Stonehill College to the Hilltop on Saturday, Jan. 14 before hosting Framingham State University on Tuesday, Jan. 17, both in non-conference play.

The Hawks skated to a 6-1 win over Southern New Hampshire in conference play on Jan. 6 before falling to Worcester State on Jan. 7 to push their record to 10-6-1 on the season and to 6-3-1 in NE10 play. Following the three home contests, Saint Anselm will head to Assumption University for a pair of conference tilts on Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21.

The Ravens suffered a 4-2 loss at Suffolk on Jan. 7 in their return from the holiday break, dropping to 8-8-0 on the season. The team holds a 5-3-0 mark in NE10 contests and make their return to conference play against the Hawks. Franklin Pierce hosts Brockport on Saturday, Jan. 14 before also hosting Anna Maria on Tuesday, Jan. 17.

The Skyhawks posted an 8-2 win over Assumption University on Jan. 10 to improve to 12-2-2 in their first season competing as a NCAA Division I institution. Stonehill will host Rivier University on Tuesday, Jan. 17 for their first home game since Dec. 6.

The Rams are 3-8-1 on their season and will battle Fitchburg State and Worcester State in MASCAC play before making the trip to the Hilltop. The Rams suffered a 5-2 loss to UMass-Dartmouth on Jan. 7, marking their most recent contest at the time of writing.

HAWKS NOTES
  • With the win over the Penmen, senior goaltender Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) earned his 29th career win which moved him into a tie for fourth all-time with Robert Kang '14. Howard also became just the ninth Saint Anselm student-athlete to eclipse the 1,500 career saves mark and is now tied for eighth all-time with Paul Fabrizio '87 at 1,514 career stops.
  • On the season, Howard has a 9-5-1 record with a 2.78 goals-against average, a 0.912 save percentage, and a total of 435 saves. Howard leads the NE10 in goals-against average and saves while ranking third in save percentage.
  • Senior co-captain Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.) ranks fifth in the NE10 with 14 points, coming from six goals and eight assists. Andary is the Hawks leader in points while sitting in a tie for second in goals and is second in assists.
  • Sophomore Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.) leads the Saint Anselm offense with eight goals while senior co-alternate captain Jack Murphy (Marshfield, Mass.) is tied for the conference lead at 12 helpers.
  • The Saint Anselm offense has six student-athletes in double-digit points. Senior co-captain Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.), sophomore Mark Blaney (Braintree, Mass.), and junior co-alternate captain Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) join Andary, Murphy, and Reynolds in double-digit points.
  • Sophomore Hunter Brackett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and freshman Jack Devine (East Greenwich, R.I.) collected the NE10 Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors on Monday. It is the first career weekly accolade for both student-athletes.
  • The Hawks power play is operating at 15.3% as they have lit the lamp nine times in 59 power play chances. The penalty kill has allowed eight goals in 73 times shorthanded, good for an 89.0% penalty kill rate.
SCOUTING FRANKLIN PIERCE
  • Connor Foley leads the NE10 with 23 points. He has a conference-high 12 goals and sits in a tie for third, also in the conference, with 11 helpers.
  • Chris Stevenson is second on the Ravens with 16 points. Stevenson is tied for second on the squad with five goals and is tied with Foley for the team lead and the third spot in the NE10 with 11 assists.
  • Jason Ladzinski is tied for second on the roster with five goals while Cody Rumsey, Stephen Jacobs, and Trevor Lawler all have 10 or more points on the season.
  • Kyle Martin has drawn 12 starts in the goal for the Ravens. He is 7-4-0 with a 3.10 goals-against average and a 0.914 save percentage. Martin ranks second in the conference in goals-against average and save percentage while ranking third in saves (351).
  • The Franklin Pierce power play sits at an 18.3% conversion rate, netting 11 goals in 60 power play opportunities. The penalty kill has allowed 18 goals in 85 times shorthanded, good for 78.8%.
SCOUTING STONEHILL
  • Frank Ireland leads the Skyhawks offense with 29 points. Ireland has netted nine goals which are second most on the roster and has a team-high 20 assists.
  • Carter Rapalje leads Stonehill with 15 goals while ranking fourth in assists at 12. He sits in second on the squad with 27 total points.
  • William Tripp ranks second on the Skyhawks roster with 17 helpers this season. The team has seven student-athletes who have 10 or more points on the 2022-23 campaign.
  • John Day and Gavin FitzPatrick have started eight games apiece in the Skyhawks goal. Day is 5-1-1 with a 2.79 goals-against average and a 0.912 save percentage while FitzPatrick is 6-1-1 with a 3.60 goals-against average and a 0.888 save percentage.
  • Stonehill has netted 22 goals in 81 power plays. That translates to a 27.2% success rate. The team has been shorthanded on 79 occasions and sits at an 81.0% penalty kill rate.
SCOUTING FRAMINGHAM STATE
  • Ashton Collazo leads the Rams offense with 13 points. Collazo ranks second on the squad with five goals while leading the team with eight helpers.
  • Dylan Marty leads the team with six goals while sitting in a tie for second with six assists. Marty joins Collazo as the only Rams student-athlete with double-digit points.
  • John Baker is tied for second on the squad with six assists. Patrick Colgan ranks third on the roster with four goals scored this season.
  • Blake Carlson has started 10 games in the goal for the Rams. Carlson is 3-5-1 with a 3.38 goals-against average and a 0.914 save percentage. He has totaled 331 stops in 2022-23.
  • The Rams power play sits at 11.5% having scored six goals in 52 power play opportunities while the penalty kill is 55-of-67, good for an 82.1% penalty kill rate.
ALL-TIME vs. FRANKLIN PIERCE, STONEHILL, FRAMINGHAM STATE
  • The Hawks and Ravens will be meeting for the 29th time on Friday and the first of the 2022-23 campaign. Saint Anselm enjoys a 24-4-0 record against Franklin Pierce all-time.
  • Saint Anselm won two of three meetings in last season's series including a 3-2 win on Feb. 12, 2022 which gave the Hawks the season series, two games to one.
  • This will be the 43rd meeting in the all-time series between the Hawks and Skyhawks and the first since Stonehill transitioned to the NCAA Division I ranks. The Hawks hold a 30-6-6 record against the Skyhawks.
  • The Skyhawks netted a 5-4 win over the Hawks in the NE10 First Round on Feb. 26, 2022 marking the last meeting in the series.
  • This will be the first meeting between the Hawks and Rams since Feb. 14, 1983. Saint Anselm is 2-0-0 against Framingham State.
