Women's soccer downs Daemen (N.Y.), 3-1

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team grabbed their fourth consecutive win to open the 2022 season by downing Daemen (N.Y.) by a 3-1 score on Monday.

With the win, the Hawks remain undefeated and improve to 4-0-0 while the Wildcats fall to 0-3-1 on the young season. Saint Anselm heads to Pace on Saturday, Sept. 10 to open Northeast-10 Conference play.

The last time the women's soccer program was undefeated through its first four matches was to open the 1999 season. The 2022 Hawks join the 1999 squad as the only teams in program history to post winning results in each of their first four contests.

Junior Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) netted her first two goals of the 2022 campaign while senior Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) added her first tally of the season in Monday's match.

White got the scoring started as she sent a free-kick from about 30 yards out into the back of the net in the 33rd minute to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.

Just 31 seconds later, Gotobed drew a foul inside the Daemen 18-yard box, earning a penalty kick which she would convert on to double the Saint Anselm lead.

Gotobed netted her second goal of the match in the 60th minute when she drove through the midfield and fired a shot from about 30 yards away that sailed into the back of the net, just under the crossbar.

The Wildcats would get on the board when a free-kick from Madita Zeitz beat the Saint Anselm freshman goalkeeper Emma Hudson (Kingston, Mass.) in the upper right corner of the goal in the 87th minute.

Saint Anselm was outshot in the match by a 17-7 margin but put five of its seven shots on target while Daemen managed to put just six of its 17 on frame.

Hudson collects her fourth win in her first season on the Hilltop and stopped five of six shots on goal. Tori DeLappi and Becca Schultz split time in the goal for Daemen and combined for two saves.
