Women's soccer drops NE10 opener to Pace

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The regionally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's soccer team dropped its Northeast-10 Conference opener to Pace University on Saturday, 3-0.

The Hawks suffer their first loss of the season and move to 4-1-0 overall with a 0-1-0 mark in NE10 matches while the Setters improve to 3-1-2 overall and 1-0-0 in league contests. Saint Anselm heads to in-state foe, Franklin Pierce University, on Tuesday, Sept. 13. The match from Rindge, N.H. is slated for a 7 p.m. start.

The Setters jumped on the board first as Alli Carr managed to beat freshman goalkeeper Emma Hudson (Kingston, Mass.) on a bouncing ball inside the 18-yard box. Carr was sitting on the left post and managed to push across the game's opening score.

The Hawks had a great chance to respond when freshman Gabrielle Chisholm (Danvers, Mass.) sent a through ball forward for sophomore Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.). Pecor headed the chance on goal but it was turned aside by Annabella Cole.

Pace doubled its lead in the 48th minute as Aryanna Ortiz cleaned up a loose ball in the box, following a corner kick, managing to beat Hudson on the left side of the goal.

Amber Bosser added to the Pace lead in the 55th minute as she buried a chance off a corner kick which pushed the Setters lead to 3-0.

The Hawks would test the Pace goalkeeping late in the second half as freshman Emma Catanzarite (East Longmeadow, Mass.), junior Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.), and senior Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) all put shots on goal but all their chances were saved.

Hudson made six saves in the goal for the Hawks as she drops to 4-1-0 in her rookie season. Cole posted the win for Pace with Anna Fiore getting time in the second half. The goalkeeping duo stopped all six Hawks shots on goal in the contest.
