MANCHESTER, N.H. – Freshman
Kayli Porter (Wakefield, Mass.) scored her first two collegiate goals to aid the Hawks to a 2-0 win over Goldey-Beacom College on Friday.
With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-0-0 on the season and will head to Daemen (N.Y.) University on Monday, Sept. 5 to conclude their non-conference slate. The Lightning will drop to 1-2-0 with the loss.
Saint Anselm has posted a win in each of its first three matches for the first time since the 2006 season and becomes just the seventh team in program history to do so.
Porter's first collegiate goal came in the 16th minute as she collected a feed from sophomore
Josie Pecor (Williston, Vt.) and buried her shot attempt from just outside the six-yard box into the lower right corner of the goal, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
After strong passing the through the middle of the pitch, senior
Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) found junior
Olivia Gotobed (North Andover, Mass.) who sent a touch pass through the back line for Pecor. Pecor fired a shot on the Lightning goalkeeper
Nikki Cashin, which she turned aside but Porter was able to crash the net and clean up the rebound, giving the Hawks a 2-0 edge in the 56th minute.
Sophomore
Erin Rutherford (Ashburnham, Mass.) nearly made it 3-0 just minutes later as she found free space on a short corner kick play but sent her right-footed shot off the crossbar.
The Hawks defense locked down the Lightning attack as they limited the visitors to just one shot attempt following the crossbar shot from Rutherford.
Freshman
Emma Hudson (Kingston, Mass.) posted her second collegiate shutout as she stopped the lone shot on goal she faced. Cashin made 11 saves in the losing effort for Goldey-Beacom.
