Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's tennis edged by Regis (Mass.), 5-4

HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team hosted Regis (Mass.) College on Sunday and came up on the short end of a 5-4 match played on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University.

The dual match, played under NCAA Division III scoring rules, was decided with the final singles contest of the afternoon, dropping Saint Anselm to 4-12 overall on the year. Regis moves to 9-10 with the result.

The Hawks were victorious in two out of three doubles matches to begin play, led by the number one tandem of junior Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman Julia Svor (Lewiston, Maine), while freshman Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) and classmate Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) posted a win at the number two doubles slot. All the doubles competitions finished at scores of 8-3.

Abigail Svor kept the momentum rolling for the Hawks in singles, when she earned a straight-set 6-1, 6-1 triumph over the Pride's Kaitlyn Colby. Shortly after visiting Regis would narrow the margin with a win at No. 5 singles, Kapothanasis put the hosts up 4-2 with a successful 6-3, 6-1 showing at No. 1 singles.

Saint Anselm would need victory in just one of the remaining contests to secure the overall match, but Regis notched wins (No. 6 and No. 2 singles) to even things up at 4-4, setting the stage for a third-set thriller at No. 3 singles.

Julia Svor overcame a one-set deficit and rallied to win the second frame. But after a hard fought third set battle in which Svor would fight off three match points, Regis's Stephanie Beatrice emerged the victor by a final margin of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Saint Anselm returns to action Wednesday, Apr. 6 with a 3 p.m. match at Colby-Sawyer College.
