Women's tennis on losing end of 4-3 tilt with Assumption

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team hosted Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption University on Sunday evening. Competing in a tightly-contested match, the Hawks would lose to the visiting Greyhounds by a final score of 4-3.

Assumption (5-7) secured an early 1-0 lead over Saint Anselm (4-13) by prevailing in two of three contests during doubles action, and that doubles point would prove to be the difference in the end, as the Hawks and Greyhounds split the six singles matches.

The tandem of freshman Julia Casaletto (Rowley, Mass.) and senior Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) gave the hosts an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles. However, Assumption would prevail at both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to grab early momentum.

In singles action, Assumption posted triumphs at the top three positions, with Saint Anselm scoring victories at No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles.

Reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) managed her second-straight win at No. 4 singles, with fellow freshman Casaletto following suit at the No. 5 hole. Sophomore Katie Mahan (Bridgewater, Mass.) was victorious at the No. 6 position by a margin of 8-1, good her first collegiate singles victory.
