PREVIEW: No. 23 women's lacrosse heads to No. 9 Stonehill, Saint Rose to close regular season

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 23 Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team heads to No. 9 Stonehill College and the College of Saint Rose on Friday, Apr. 29 and Saturday, Apr. 30 to conclude its regular season.

The Hawks fell to Bentley University in their home finale on Apr. 27 by a 9-8 score. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 7-7 on the season and 5-6 in Northeast-10 Conference play. Saint Anselm currently sits in ninth in the NE10 standings, just one spot out of the final position to qualify for the NE10 postseason.

The Skyhawks enter their regular season finale riding a seven-game winning streak after downing Southern New Hampshire University by a 16-6 score on Apr. 27. With the win, Stonehill improves to 13-2 overall and 11-1 in conference play. Stonehill currently sits in first in the NE10 standings as they hold the head-to-head tiebreaker over nationally-ranked Adelphi University.

The Golden Knights grabbed a 7-6 win on Apr. 27 over American International College. The team heads to its regular season finale with an 8-8 record overall and 4-8 in league games. Saint Rose has been eliminated from NE10 postseason contention.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Senior Jenna Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) led the Saint Anselm offense with three goals in the loss to the Falcons. Balboni is now tied with Kaitlyn Stazinski '15 for ninth all-time in program history with 147 points.
  • Balboni currently leads the team with 54 points on 34 goals and 20 assists. Balboni ranks second on the Hawks in both goals and assists.
  • Junior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) netted two goals for the Hawks while sophomores Isabella Stuzynski (Bedford, Mass.), Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.), and Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) scored one goal each against Bentley.
  • Palmisano leads Saint Anselm with 43 goals and ranks third on the team 43 points. The junior has scored a goal in all but one game this season and has netted multiple goals in 11 of the Hawks' 14 games this season.
  • Stuzynski recorded her first collegiate assist to go with one goal against Bentley.
  • Sullivan ranks second on the Hawks with 47 points. The sophomore has scored 30 goals, which is third best on the team and has 17 assists, also third best on the squad.
  • Senior Annie Richards (Reading, Mass.) is third in the NE10 with 33 assists. Richards has scored one goal, bringing her season total to 34 points.
  • Senior Grace Young (Merrimack, N.H.) has stopped 131 shots on goal this season which is eighth most in team annals. Young also sits at 295 saves which is fourth most in women's lacrosse program history. Young ranks fourth in the NE10 in saves, third in save percentage (.461), and seventh with an 11.42 goals-against average.
  • Palmisano leads Saint Anselm with 61 draw controls while senior McKenzie Robinson (Mont Vernon, N.H.) is second with 48. The duo is tied for the team lead with 13 caused turnovers.
SCOUTING STONEHILL
  • Emma Sullivan leads Stonehill and ranks second in the NE10 with 55 goals this season. She has assisted on 14 other goals, bringing her season points total to 69 which is second in the conference.
  • Kayla Conway and Kendall Fressle are second and third on the team with 42 and 40 goals scored. Molly Mae Hughes has netted 39 goals this season, part of six student-athletes with 20 or more goals this season.
  • Lydia Rudden, who is the most recent NE10 Player of the Week, leads the conference with 96 points on 34 goals and a league-high 62 assists.
  • Sarah Faley has started 14 games for the Skyhawks this season. Faley has made 114 saves, goof for a .442 save percentage and a 10.62 goals-against average. Faley is fifth in the conference in save percentage and goals-against average.
  • Sullivan has collected 112 draw controls while causing 37 turnovers. Both marks lead the conference. Sullivan also has 59 ground balls which is a league-high.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE
  • Daria Bock has scored 29 goals and assisted on 19 others for 48 points, all of which lead the Golden Knights.
  • Kaitlyn Jolly has found the back of the net 28 times and has seven assists for 35 points which is second on the squad.
  • Deanna Ciliento follows Bock and Jolly closely with 27 goals and has 33 points. Katy McPeak ranks second on the Golden Knights with 18 assists and 37 points. She has tallied 19 goals on the season.
  • Dorothy Gaffney has started all 16 games for Saint Rose this season. Gaffney owns a 12.22 goals-against average and a .372 save percentage.
  • Bock and Ciliento lead the team with 77 and 50 draw controls each. Eileen Ratigan has caused 24 turnovers, which is a team-high. McPeak has scooped 48 ground balls which leads the team.
ALL-TIME vs. STONEHILL
  • Friday's contest will mark the 27th meeting all-time between the Hawks and Skyhawks. Stonehill owns a 21-5 record all-time against Saint Anselm.
  • The programs met twice in the spring of 2021 with the Hawks taking both matchups. Saint Anselm posted a 17-7 win in the last meeting on Apr. 24, 2021.
  • Stonehill won each of the first 18 matchups to open the series which started on Mar. 22, 2000. Including the Hawks first win in the series on Apr. 22, 2014, Saint Anselm is 5-3 against Stonehill since snapping the Skyhawks' win streak.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT ROSE
  • This will be the first meeting all-time between the Hawks and Golden Knights.
  • Saint Rose debuted its women's lacrosse program in the spring of 2020.
