PREVIEW: No. 23 women's lacrosse hosts Bentley on Senior Day

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The No. 23 Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team hosts Bentley University in its final home game of the 2022 regular season on Wednesday.

The Hawks will honor their 11 seniors prior to the start of the contest, which is slated for a 7 p.m. start.

The Hawks fell to nationally-ranked University of New Haven on Apr. 23 by a 10-6 score. With the loss, Saint Anselm falls to 7-6 overall and 5-5 in Northeast-10 Conference games. The Hawks head to No. 9 Stonehill College and the College of the Saint Rose on Friday, Apr. 29 and Saturday, Apr. 30 to conclude their regular season.

The Falcons fell to nationally-ranked Le Moyne College on Apr. 23 by a 17-7 margin. The loss drops Bentley to 6-7 on the year and 5-6 in league contests. After coming to the Hilltop, Bentley hosts New Haven
in its regular season finale on Saturday, Apr. 30.

Fans are reminded that Grappone Stadium is a pet-free facility and that all non-service animals will be asked to leave the venue upon arrival.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Senior Annie Richards (Reading, Mass.) became the first women's lacrosse student-athlete to reach 100 career assists against New Haven. Richards leads the Hawks and is third in the NE10 with 33 helpers. That mark is a career-high for the senior.
  • Senior Jenna Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) led Saint Anselm against New Haven with two goals and two assists for four points. That puts her in a tie for 10th with Erica Mattila '18 with 144 career points all-time.
  • On the season, Balboni ranks second on the team in goals (31) and assists (20) but leads the squad at 51 points. Balboni's point total is tied for ninth and her assist total is ninth when compared to the rest of the NE10.
  • Seniors Taylor Cobain (Smithfield, R.I.) and Olivia Smyrnios (Lynnfield, Mass.) and sophomores Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) and Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) all netted one goal each for the Hawks against the Chargers.
  • Sullivan ranks second on the team with 45 points, coming from 29 goals and 16 assists, both of which rank third on the team.
  • Cobain and Ferullo are fifth and sixth on the team in points with 24 and 21 each. Cobain has scored 16 goals and assisted on eight others while Ferullo has netted 21 goals.
  • Junior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) leads Saint Anselm with 41 goals scored. Her 41 points are third highest on the team.
  • Senior Grace Young (Merrimack, N.H.) stopped 12 shots on goal at New Haven, marking her sixth game this season in double-digit saves. Young is 7-6 in the cage for the Hawks this season with an 11.62 goals-against average and a .450 save percentage. The senior ranks fourth in the NE10 in save percentage and in total saves.
  • Young, who sits in fifth in all-time saves, needs 11 to surpass Zoie Cavotta '18 for fourth on the list. Currently, the senior ranks third in all-time save percentage (.468) and in goals-against average (10.21) while sitting in a tie for third in career wins (19).
  • Palmisano and senior McKenzie Robinson (Mont Vernon, N.H.) rank first and second on the team with 56 and 49 draw controls respectively. Robinson is one of three Hawks in double figures for caused turnovers while Young leads the team with 43 ground balls.
SCOUTING BENTLEY
  • Cara McCarthy led the Falcons offense with three goals in the team's loss to Le Moyne last time out. She added one assist, bringing her point total to four for the contest. Maeve Johnson posted two goals and two assists to tie McCarthy with a game-high four points.
  • McCarthy and Johnson are tied for the team lead with 27 goals each. Both student-athletes have recorded 11 assists which is second most on the team and are tied with 38 points.
  • Glenna Gies, who scored one goal against Le Moyne, ranks third on the Falcons with 19 goals.
  • Courtney Dermody leads Bentley with 13 helpers. Her 16 goals are tied for fourth on the squad while ranking third in points with 29.
  • Caroline Affolter, Sydney Lynch, and Caroline Boudreau have all netted double digit goals this season.
  • Maya Rose are started all 13 games for Bentley. Rose has made 99 saves this season and has an 11.79 goals-against average to go along with a .409 save percentage.
  • McCarthy leads the team with 48 draw controls while Affolter and Christine Fish follow closely with 39 and 34 draw controls each. Fish has caused a team-high 23 turnovers and ranks second on the team with 27 grounds balls, trailing Kat Slattery who has 28 ground balls.
ALL-TIME vs. BENTLEY
  • This will be the 27th meeting all-time between the Hawks and Falcons. Bentley is 23-3 against Saint Anselm.
  • The programs met three times during the spring of 2021 including in the NE10 Northeast Division finals. Bentley won that contest by a 13-10 score on May 6, 2021 to advance to the Conference Championship game. The squads split the regular season series with the Hawks grabbing a 12-11 win on Apr. 13 before falling at Bentley on Apr. 20 by a 9-7 score.
  • The Falcons won the first 16 meetings of the all-time series starting on Mar. 25, 2000 before the Hawks grabbed back-to-back wins over Bentley on Mar. 19, 2014 and Apr. 30, 2014.
  • During the 2014 season, Saint Anselm won its first-ever NE10 postseason game with the 17-10 win over Bentley on Apr. 30.
  • All three of the wins in the series posted by Saint Anselm have come from Grappone Stadium.
