PREVIEW: No. 20 women's lacrosse battles No. 3 Adelphi in NE10 play on Saturday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team welcomes No. 3 Adelphi University to the Hilltop for a Northeast-10 Conference battle on Saturday.

The Hawks got a free-position goal from senior Jenna Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) with 1:28 left in the fourth quarter which proved to be the game-winning goal as Saint Anselm posted a 15-14 win over cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire on Mar. 30. With the win, the Hawks improve to 6-1 on the season and 4-0 in NE10 play. After hosting the Panthers, Saint Anselm hosts No. 19 Assumption University on Tuesday, Apr. 5.

The Panthers notched an 11-4 victory over No. 14 Pace University on Mar. 30, improving to 7-0 on season and 4-0 in conference play. After making the trip to the Granite State, Adelphi hosts Southern Connecticut State University on Tuesday, Apr. 5.

Fans are reminded that Grappone Stadium is a pet-free facility and that all non-service animals will be asked to leave the venue upon arrival.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Balboni needs just eight goals to eclipse the 100-career goal mark. In doing so, she would become just the 10th Saint Anselm women's lacrosse student-athlete to reach 100 career goals.
  • In free position goals, Balboni is currently tied with Erin Marshall '16 for fifth most in program history at 30.
  • Beth Millian '08 currently sits in 11th all-time in points with 128. Senior Annie Richards (Reading, Mass.) and Balboni need four points and eight points to overtake Milian in career points.
  • On the season, Balboni ranks second on the Hawks in goals (18) and third in assists (10) and points (28). The senior has scored six free-position goals on 13 shot attempts, both of which lead the team.
  • Richards needs just 12 assists to become the first Saint Anselm women's lacrosse student-athlete to reach the 100 career assists mark. The senior currently leads the Hawks and ranks second in the conference in assists with 21.
  • Junior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) is tied for the conference lead in goals with 31, which is a career-high. Palmisano has scored at least three goals in each of the Hawks seven games this season.
  • Sophomore Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) joins Palmisano in the 30-point club this season with 17 goals and 13 assists, ranking second and third on the team.
  • Senior Grace Young (Merrimack, N.H.) is fourth in the NE10 in saves (61), second in save percentage (.508), and fifth in goals-against average (8.98). The senior has started all seven games in goal for Saint Anselm and has made nine or more saves in five of the seven contests.
  • Young's 225 career saves in sixth most in program history while her 9.21 career goals-against average is third best.
  • As a team, the Hawks own the fifth best save percentage in all of NCAA Division II at .528.
  • Senior McKenzie Robinson (Mont Vernon, N.H.) and Palmisano rank first and second on the team in draw controls at 33 and 28, respectively.
  • Sophomore Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) and Palmisano are tied for the team lead with eight caused turnovers while Young leads the team and ranks second in the NE10 with 28 ground balls.
SCOUTING ADELPHI
  • The Panthers own the country's best scoring defense, allowing just 5.44 goals per game. Emma Lemanski leads all of NCAA Division II with a 5.01 goals-against average and has the second best save percentage at .556.
  • Christina McCabe leads the Adelphi offense with 26 points. Her 14 goals rank third on the team but her 12 assists lead the Panthers.
  • Kerrin Heuser has a team-high 20 goals and has assisted on two other goals for 22 points, which is second on the team.
  • Izzy Grant has found the back of the cage 17 times, second most on the team, and ranks third in points with 21.
  • Emily Beier sits in fourth on the squad with 20 points as she has netted 11 goals and assisted on nine others. Beier ranks second on the team in assists.
  • Four student-athletes have double-digit caused turnovers for the Panthers through seven games. Alexandra Beebe leads the team with 12 caused turnovers. Heuser leads the team with 13 ground balls while Grant has a team-high 33 draw controls.
ALL-TIME vs. ADELPHI
  • This will be the 18th meeting all-time between the Hawks and Panthers. Adelphi is 16-1 against Saint Anselm in the series.
  • The teams have not met since Apr. 18, 2019 which resulted in a 16-1 win for the Panthers from Garden City, N.Y.
  • The Hawks won the first meeting between the programs on Apr. 21, 2001 but the Panthers have won 16 consecutive contests since.
