PREVIEW: No. 20 women's lacrosse heads to American International on Saturday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team heads to American International College for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup from Springfield, Mass. The opening draw control is set for 1 p.m.

The Hawks returned to the Granite State and posted an 18-4 win over Saint Michael's College in NE10 play on Mar. 22. With the win, the team improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. After making the trip to western Massachusetts, the Hawks battle with Queen City Cup rival Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday, Mar. 30.

The Yellow Jackets fell to No. 24 Stonehill College by a 19-2 score on Mar. 23, dropping to 2-3 on the season and 0-2 in NE10 contests. The team heads to Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, Mar. 30 and will remain on the road with a contest at nationally-ranked Assumption University on Saturday, Apr. 2.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Junior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) netted a game-high five goals, extending her streak of five or more goals scored to four games. The last time a Saint Anselm student-athlete recorded a streak of five or more goals was in the 2013 season when Marissa Daly '15 reached the mark in three consecutive games.
  • Palmisano leads the Hawks with 24 goals scored this season which is tied for most in the NE10. The junior ranks second on the squad with 24 points.
  • Sophomore Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) scored two goals and assisted on five others for Saint Anselm in Tuesday's win, recording a game-high seven points. Sullivan is tied for second on the Hawks with 14 goals and leads the team with 12 assists and 26 points. Her point total ranks fifth in the NE10.
  • Sophomore Isabella Stuzynski (Bedford, Mass.) scored a career-high four goals against the Purple Knights while seniors Jenna Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) and Taylor Cobain (Smithfield, R.I.) scored two goals each for the Hawks.
  • Senior Grace Young (Merrimack, N.H.) stopped two shots on goal in the cage for the Hawks. Young ranks third in the NE10 with a .531 save percentage and an 8.06 goals-against average. Freshman Elizabeth Driscoll (Marblehead, Mass.) stopped all three shots on goal in her collegiate debut against the Purple Knights.
  • Freshmen Kendra Sabotka (Rutland, Vt.), Jaycie Balboni (Billerica, Mass.), Abigail Robbins (Essex Junction, Vt.), and junior Julia Silk (North Andover, Mass.) all made their collegiate debuts in Tuesday's win.
  • The Hawks offense has posted 78 goals this season while allowing 38 through five games this season. Saint Anselm has scored 13 free position goals this season on 35 attempts, good for a 37.1% conversion rate. The team has collected 62 draw controls and caused 46 turnovers while scooping 103 ground balls.
SCOUTING AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
  • The Yellow Jackets opened the season with a 20-17 win over Saint Thomas Aquinas but dropped their next two games to Bridgeport and Bentley. The team got back in the win column, downing Felician, but fell to No. 24 Stonehill in its last contest.
  • Anevay Rice leads the team in scoring with 11 goals. Rice ranks second on the team in assists while leading the Yellow Jackets with 17 points.
  • Kathryn Moody is second on the team with 10 goals while Antonella Mikolyuk and Jordyn Galgay are tied for third with nine markers each. Mikolyuk leads the team with seven assists and ranks second in points.
  • Jessica Stone has started all five games for the Yellow Jackets. She has a 15.88 goals-against average and a .453 save percentage. Marissa Long has made an appearance in four games and holds a 9.86 goals against and a .414 save percentage.
  • American International is being outscored by a 69-56 margin through its first five games. The team has taken just 14 free position attempts and scored on eight of them, good for a 57.1% make rate.
ALL-TIME vs. AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL
  • This will be the 23rd meeting in the all-time series between the Hawks and Yellow Jackets. Saint Anselm enjoys a 20-2 record all-time against American International.
  • The Hawks posted a 12-4 win on Mar. 20, 2021, extending their current win streak to four games. Sophomore Alison Ferullo (North Andover, Mass.) potted a game-high five goals while Jenna Balboni, junior Meghan Cotraro (Beverly, Mass.), and sophomore Erin Doyle (Weymouth, Mass.) all scored one goal each in the tilt from Grappone Stadium.
  • After dropping the first meeting all-time on Apr. 4, 2000, Saint Anselm won the next 16 games over the Yellow Jackets. A narrow 11-10 loss for the Hawks snapped the winning streak on Mar. 18, 2016.
  • The last time the teams met in Springfield, Mass. came on Mar. 23, 2018 which resulted in a 20-10 win for Saint Anselm.
