PREVIEW: Women's lacrosse hosts Saint Michael's in NE10 action on Tuesday

MANCHESTER, N.H. – After three games in the Sunshine State, the nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College women's lacrosse team returns home to battle Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday, Mar. 22.

The Hawks posted a 2-1 mark in three games in Florida over spring break. Saint Anselm posted a 16-5 win over Flagler College and a 17-9 win over No. 23 Saint Leo University before falling to No. 16 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University by a 14-10 score to close the week. After hosting the Purple Knights, the Hawks head to American International College on Saturday, Mar. 26 for an NE10 contest with the Yellow Jackets.

The Purple Knights opened the season with a win over Post University on Feb. 19 but have dropped their last three contests to No. 7 Roberts Wesleyan University, Saint Lawrence University, and most recently No. 20 Assumption University by a 16-2 score on Mar. 19. After coming to the Hilltop, Saint Michael's heads to Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, Mar. 26.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Junior Lexi Palmisano (Woburn, Mass.) has scored at least five goals in each of the last three games and leads the Hawks in scoring with 19 goals, which is tied for second most in the NE10. The junior is tied for the team lead with 19 points. Palmisano also ranks second on the team in draw controls with 13, behind senior McKenzie Robinson (Mont Vernon, N.H.) who has 19.
  • Senior Jenna Balboni (Billerica, Mass.) is tied for the Hawks lead with 19 points while ranking second in both goals (12) and assists (7). Against Flagler, Balboni crossed the 100-point threshold in her collegiate career.
  • Sophomore Jess Sullivan (Wrentham, Mass.) is tied with Balboni for second on the team with 12 goals and trails the team lead for points by one. Senior Taylor Cobain (Smithfield, R.I.) ranks fourth on the squad in points with 10 (5-5=10).
  • Senior Annie Richards (Reading, Mass.) leads the Hawks with eight assists and is fifth in points with nine. Balboni, Sullivan, and Cobain following close behind with seven, six, and five assists each, respectively.
  • Senior Grace Young (Merrimack, N.H.) has started all four games in goal for the Hawks and boasts a .547 save percentage and an 8.50 goals-against average. Young's save total of 41 is second most in the conference this season. Her goals-against average is fifth best while her save percentage ranks fourth in the NE10. The senior captain made a season-high 13 saves in the cage for the Hawks against Embry-Riddle and has made 10 or more saves in each of the last three games. Young now sits at 205 saves in her collegiate career which gives her the sixth-most in program history.
  • The Hawks are averaging 31.3 shots per game while holding opponents to 25.8 shots per game. For the season, Saint Anselm is 10-22 in free position shot attempts, good for a .455 conversion rate. The Hawks have outscored their opponents by a 60-34 margin through the opening four games.
SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S
  • Catie Murphy leads the Purple Knights with nine goals and nine points. Murphy scored three goals in the season opener and scored three in the loss to Saint Lawrence before adding both tallies in the loss to Assumption.
  • Amanda Drislane, Jordy Fenton, and Paige Fleming are tied for second on the squad with two goals each.
  • Fenton and Erin Stolz are tied for the team lead with helpers each this season. Hannah Bishop, Addy Fenton, and Emilie Webster have all recorded one assist each for the Purple Knights.
  • Hope Msumba has started three games for Saint Michael's this season. She has a .429 save percentage and a 14.22 goals-against average. Abby Cole has drawn one start and is 1-1 on the season in two appearances. Cole has a .400 save percentage and a 12.00 goals-against average.
  • The Purple Knights are averaging 19.00 shots per game and are 6-23 in free position shots, which is good for a .261 goal rate. The team has grabbed 36 draw controls, led by Hope Alto who has collected 23 of them.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT MICHAEL'S
  • This will be the 25th meeting in the all-time series between the Hawks and Purple Knights. Saint Anselm is 14-10 against Saint Michael's.
  • The programs last met on Apr. 7, 2021, resulting in a 14-4 win for Saint Anselm from Grappone Stadium. Richards, Balboni, and Sullivan combined for nine of the 14 goals for the Hawks with Balboni posting a game-high four goals. Young stopped four shots on goal for Saint Anselm.
  • After each team grabbed two wins in the first four meetings all-time starting on Apr. 16, 2000, Saint Michael's won seven of the next eight meetings. Since the Hawks grabbed their fourth win in the series on Apr. 7, 2009, Saint Anselm has won 11 of the last 12 meetings with the Purple Knights, including each of the last three.
  • When playing in Manchester, N.H., the Hawks enjoy an 8-4 record over the Purple Knights, compared to a 6-6 mark when in Colchester, Vt.
