Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women's tennis blanked by Atlantis, Wayne St. (Mich.)

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team returned to action on Sunday when the team took to the courts for a doubleheader in south Florida.

The Hawks began the day in an exhibition contest versus first-year program Atlantis University at the Maxwell Tennis Center in Pembroke Pines, falling by a 7-0 margin. Saint Anselm dropped a similar match to Wayne State (Mich.), losing by a 7-0 score.

"The team played two matches today and left it all on the court," said Assistant Coach Elizabeth Lincoln. "The results do not show the effort and intensity produced by the team's student-athletes. Moving forward, we plan on taking each match as a stepping stone to better ourselves individually and as a team overall. It was great to see the team play in a competitive environment."

Against Atlantis, several Hawks played well in both singles and doubles. At No. 2 doubles, the freshmen tandem of Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) and Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) were on serve at 4-5 before losing a hard-fought morning match, 6-4.

Parzick followed up that doubles performance with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat in singles action, her first collegiate appearance in the No. 2 position. Junior Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) anchored Saint Anselm at the top of the lineup, and would lose in the top slot by the same margin, the team's two closest results on the singles scorecard.

In the afternoon match, the Hawks faced a powerful NCAA Division II foe, Wayne State. Parzick and freshman Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) again put forth the team's best doubles performance, falling 6-3 at the No. 2 spot.

Two other freshmen played in all four matches, with Julia Svor competing at No. 1 doubles alongside Kapothanasis and No. singles, while teammate Julia Casaletto (Rowley, Mass.) teamed with senior Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) at No. 3 doubles. Casaletto played at No. 5 singles in both contests, with several sparkling points in her afternoon performance.

Sophomore Katie Mahan (Bridgewater, Mass.) cracked the singles lineup for the first time in a Hawks uniform, as she saw action at No. 6 in both dual matches.

Saint Anselm returns to action Wednesday, Apr. 6 in a match to be played at Colby-Sawyer.
