Saint Anselm is coming off a tough loss at home to Assumption on Wednesday, coming out on the losing end of a 20-point victory for the Greyhounds. The Hawks shot under 30% in the game, doing so for the only the second time this season – the team will look for back-to-back wins away from Stoutenburgh Gymnasium for the first time since the season-opening doubleheader at Roberts Wesleyan.

In a rematch between NE10 finalists from the 2019-20 season, Stonehill was toppled by Saint Anselm on Sunday, Dec. 5 in a game played on the Hilltop, 67-55. The Skyhawks have played just two games since Jan. 17, both of them victories, and the team is coming off a 76-73 victory at Bentley on Thursday, Feb. 3.

Southern Connecticut brings a 7-9 (4-6 NE10) record into the weekend and will play American International on Saturday before hosting the Hawks on Sunday. The Owls will be directly in the middle of a four-game home stand, having defeated Le Moyne on Thursday, Feb. 3 by a 62-51 margin to snap a seven-game losing skid.

Fans attending the road games at Stonehill and Southern Connecticut State are expected to abide by the spectator policies at both institutions.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Sophomore Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) scored 13 points for the Hawks against Assumption, eclipsing 300 points on the season, while senior Jenoyce Laniyan (Bedford, N.H.) had seven rebounds off the bench.
  • Assumption shot 50% from the floor (27-for-54) and took command of the game with the help of 40 points in the paint, limiting Saint Anselm to just 18 points under the basket. The Greyhounds put the game out of reach in the third, shooting over 57% from the floor en route to the win. Assumption made 15 of its last 27 shots and won the second-half rebounding battle, 19-to-16.
  • Senior Peyton Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass.) is 17th in NCAA Division II and second in the NE10 in points per game (19.8). Turco's mark of 16.8 points per contest is the fifth-best figure in the NE10, a mark that also leads the league's rookies.
  • From the free throw line, Steinman is 96-for-109 (.881) on the season and set the team's all-time record for free throws made this season. Among active NCAA Division II student-athletes, Steinman is sixth with an 84.6% career free throw percentage. She is ninth in the nation with 428 "makes" from the charity stripe.
  • As a team, Saint Anselm is first in the conference (and fifth in the nation) with a free throw percentage of 81.0% and the team's 14.1 turnovers per game is the fewest by any NE10 program. The Hawks rank second in free throws made (247) and are third in three-point field goal percentage (31.5%).
  • Head Coach Corey Boilard, the seventh head coach in Saint Anselm women's basketball history, has won 154 games across a 10-year career as a collegiate head coach. He is third all-time in Hawks history with 70 wins in 107 games (.654).

SCOUTING STONEHILL

  • Kayla Raymond, the reigning Most Outstanding Player for the NE10 Championship, is leading the way with 17.6 points per game for the Skyhawks. Emily Bramanti, the cousin of Hawks sophomore Gia Bramanti (Andover, Mass.), is second with 15.7 points per contest.
  • Bramanti is 16th in NCAA Division II with 5.4 assists per game for Stonehill – she also rarely leaves the floor, averaging just shy of 37 minutes played per game. Megan Hill is also nationally-ranked, throwing up 2.08 blocks per game to rank 23rd in the country.
  • Collectively, the Skyhawks lead the NE10 in blocked shots per game (5.8) and are second with 15.2 assists per game. Stonehill allows 66.8 points per game, ranking dead last in scoring defense, while ranking near the bottom of the NE10 in steals (5.7/game), three-point field goal defense (33.95) and three-point field goal percentage (26.9).
  • Much like the Saint Anselm men's basketball team, who won 11 consecutive games up to and including the NE10 Championship game in 2020, the Skyhawks had a 12-game winning streak upon the cancellation of the 2020 NCAA Division II Championship. Both the Saint Anselm men and the Stonehill women saw their streak snapped in the first game of the 2021-22 campaign.
  • Stonehill is led by Trisha Brown, who has won 394 games in her career for the Skyhawks. With a .684 winning percentage since joining the team in 2001, the five-time NE10 Coach of the Year is one of three active coaches in the conference with at least 360 career wins.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE

  • The Owls lead the NE10 in three-point baskets per game (7.7) and assists per game (15.4). Zoë Amalbert is third in the nation with 6.5 assists per game and has handed out 104 on the season, ranking 12th in the country.
  • Amalbert is 12th in the NE10 in three's per game (1.81), but Patricia Conroy is far and away the team leader with 2.38 per contest to rank third in the league.
  • The Owls have three student-athletes in the NE10's top six in minutes played, including Amalbert, Delaney Connors and Jessica Fressle. Amalbert is fourth in the country and Connors is ninth and the duo ranks first and second, respectively, in the conference.
  • SCSU is 5-4 at home entering Saturday's game against American International but has played to a 2-5 record away from the James Moore Field House.

ALL-TIME vs. STONEHILL, SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE

  • Stonehill leads the all-time series with Saint Anselm by a 65-28 margin. The Hawks and Skyhawks have met 93 games entering play, trailing Bentley (94 games) for Saint Anselm's most frequent opponent since the team's inception in 1976.
  • Stonehill came away with an 80-61 victory over Saint Anselm in the NE10 Championship, which was the Hawks first appearance in the title game since 1999. Shannon Ryan '20 scored 22 points with 13 rebounds for Saint Anselm and Steinman recorded 18 points with six rebounds, two blocks and two assists.
  • Southern Connecticut State holds the 16-12 advantage in the all-time series with Saint Anselm that dates back to Dec. 7, 1984. The Hawks own a five-game winning streak over SCSU.
  • From Dec. 30, 2003 through Jan. 13, 2015, the Owls fired off 11 wins in the 14 games played in that time frame. Southern Connecticut State won the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2007.
