MANCHESTER, N.H. – Three third period goals by the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team propelled them to a 5-2 victory over Post University on Tuesday.
The Hawks, who are winners in their last four contests, improve 12-10-2 on the season and 9-5-2 in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Eagles fall to 9-14-1 overall and 7-9-1 against the league. Saint Anselm concludes its regular season with a home-and-home series against Queen City Cup rival Southern New Hampshire University on Friday, Feb. 18 and Saturday, Feb. 19. Friday's opening puck drop from the Ice Den in nearby Hooksett, N.H. is slated for 7:40 p.m.
Junior
Chris Lemay (Salem, N.H.) led the Hawks offense with two goals while junior alternate captain
Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.), senior
Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.), and sophomore
Alec Grace (Laguna Hills, Calif.) each found the back of the net for Saint Anselm. Freshman
Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.) added two assists in the contest and now has recorded six helpers in the Hawks last four games.
With the contest tied at two, Grace collected a pass from Burum and made a toe drag move around a defender before sending a wrist shot into the upper half of the goal to give the Hawks a 3-2 lead at 14:05.
Saint Anselm reestablished its two-goal lead just 1:13 later as Lemay redirected a pass from freshman
Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.) into the back of the net.
Lemay added his second tally of the game with an empty netter at 19:39 of the final period.
Earlier in the contest, Andary one-timed home a pass on the power play from senior
Kevin Ouellette (Arlington, Mass.) just 1:40 into the second period, giving the Hawks a 1-0 lead after a scoreless opening 20 minutes of play. Good puck movement along the blue line between Lemay and junior
Jack Murphy (Marshfield, Mass.) opened a lane for Andary to sneak into in the slot.
Iacullo gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead at 11:07 of the second stanza. Burum fired a shot on Eagles net minder
Brandon Brown but Iacullo was able to bury the rebound chance for his third goal of the season.
Evan Lugo got Post on the scoreboard at the two-minute mark of the third period.
Trey DeLoury fired a shot from the point that was deflected by
Jack Engdahl. Junior goaltender
Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) stopped the redirect but Lugo cashed in on the rebound chance.
At 13:17 of the third period, Post found its equalizer as
Kieran Gardner capped off a cross-crease pass from Engdahl to knot the score at two.
Each team scored once on the power play as Post had four opportunities to three for Saint Anselm. The Hawks fired 46 shots on goal while Post sent 20 on frame. Saint Anselm won 35 of 62 faceoffs in the
contest with Burum and junior
Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.) winning 10 draws each.
Howard made 18 saves in goal for the Hawks, grabbing him 12th win of the season. Brown stopped 41 shots on target, including at least 13 in each period for Post.
