The Hawks, who last played on Nov. 29, netted a 4-2 win over Post University in New England Women's Hockey Alliance play. The team opens the second half of the season with an 11-9-1 overall record and a 10-3-1 mark in league games. Following the New Year's Eve battle, the Hawks will head to the University of New Hampshire for a non-conference tilt on Monday, Jan. 2.
The Warriors grabbed a 4-3 win over Dartmouth College on Dec. 10, marking their most recent contest. With the non-conference win, the team improved to 6-13-1 overall. Merrimack will head to the University of Minnesota on Friday, Jan. 6 before battling Saint Cloud State the following day for their non-conference finale.
The Wildcats suffered a 1-0 loss to the nationally-ranked University of Connecticut on Dec. 3 for their most recent tilt. After hosting the Hawks to get the second half underway, New Hampshire will also head out to Minnesota to battle Saint Cloud State and the University of Minnesota on Friday, Jan. 6 and Saturday, Jan. 7.
HAWKS NOTES
- Junior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) leads the NEWHA with 25 points, coming from a league-best 14 goals and 11 assists, which is tied for the top mark in the league. Tulchinsky was selected to represent Team USA at the World University Games, to be played later in January.
- Graduate student Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) sits on 99 career points, needing just one to become the ninth student-athlete to reach the Saint Anselm 100-point club. On the season, Golini ranks second in the NEWHA and on the team with 22 points. She is tied for third in the league with 11 goals and is tied for the league lead with 11 assists.
- Sophomores Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) and Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) have 19 points and 15 points each, which rank fourth and fifth in the league. Turner has nine goals and 10 assists while Jackson is tied for the NEWHA lead with 11 assists, adding four goals on the season.
- Junior Savannah Popick (South Windsor, Conn.) leads the Hawks defensive corps with seven points (1 G, 6 A). Popick was also selected to represent Team USA at the World University Games in January.
- Senior Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) leads the NEWHA with 645 saves in 2022-23. She is 10-9-1 in 20 starts with a 0.919 save percentage and a 2.86 goals-against average, both of which rank fifth in the league.
- The Hawks are 13-of-88 on the power play, good for a 14.8% conversion rate while the penalty kill sits at 84.8%. The penalty kill unit has allowed 14 goals in 92 times shorthanded.
SCOUTING MERRIMACK
- Katie Kaufman leads the Warriors with 14 points while Alexa Pongo ranks second with 10. Kaufman and Pongo are the lone Merrimack student-athletes with double-digit points.
- Kaufman has netted six goals and added a team-high eight assists to get her to 14 points. She has also fired a team-high 47 shots in 2022-23.
- Pongo is the Warriors leading scoring with seven goals. She has posted three helpers to get her to 10 points. Allison Reeb is third on the squad with nine points (5 G, 4 A).
- Emma Gorski has started 13 games in the Merrimack goal this season. Gorski is 4-8-1 with a 3.05 goals-against average and a 0.903 save percentage. Calli Hogarth has drawn the other seven starts and has a 0.917 save percentage to go along with a 2.87 goals-against average.
- The Merrimack power play is operating at 16.7%, scoring eight goals in 48 chances. The penalty kill unit has allowed 14 goals on 83 times shorthanded, good for an 83.1 PK percentage.
SCOUTING NEW HAMPSHIRE
- Emily Pinto and Brianna Brooks led the Wildcats offense with 13 and 10 points apiece. Kira Juodikis is third on the roster with nine points.
- Pinto leads the team with 10 assists and has netted three goals to get to her 13 points. Brooks has three goals and seven assists, which are second most on the squad.
- Juodikis has a team-high five goals scored while Kyla Bent is second on the roster with four goals this season.
- Nicky Harnett and Ava Boutilier have drawn 10 starts each in the Wildcats goal. Harnett owns a 4-6-0 record with a 2.07 goals-against average and a 0.921 save percentage while Boutilier is 2-8-0 with a 0.904 save percentage and a 2.98 goals-against average.
- The Wildcats power play has netted 12 goals on 55 power play chances which translates to a 21.8% success rate. New Hampshire has allowed 12 goals on 54 times shorthanded which puts them at 77.8% on the penalty kill.
ALL-TIME vs. MERRIMACK, NEW HAMPSHIRE
- Both contests will be the firsts in each respective all-time series.
- Since playing exclusively against National Collegiate level competition entering the 2021-22 season, Saint Anselm owns a record of 2-6-0 in first meetings all-time.
- The Hawks captured a season-opening win last season over the University of Maine and this season grabbed a 4-3 win in overtime against Stonehill College.
- In 2022-23, the Hawks are 1-1-0 in first meetings.
