MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team was saddled with a 64-52 loss by Le Moyne College on Friday in Northeast-10 Conference play.
Saint Anselm drops to 2-5 overall on the year after losing four of the team's first five games in Northeast-10 Conference play. Le Moyne improves to 5-2 on the season, capturing victories in three of the team's first four NE10 fixtures.
Sophomore Melanie Hoyt (Stamford, N.Y.) was 7-for-13 from the floor, scoring a team-leading 15 points with six rebounds. Senior Macy Spinks (Luton, England) poured home 12 points, matching classmate McKenzy Ouellette (West Newfield, Maine) point-for-point.
Senior Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) tallied six rebounds with four assists and two blocks. Junior Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was the third member of the Hawks roster to reach six rebounds, scoring five points off the bench.
Le Moyne took control in the first half, leading by seven points just minutes into the second quarter with a 17-to-7 scoring spurt. The Hawks were sluggish from the floor in that stretch, connecting on just two of the team's 11 field goal attempts and committing four turnovers.
The Dolphins poured home the first six points of the second stanza before Saint Anselm kept the game close, tallying 14 of the final 20 points of the first half to trail by just one point, 26-25, at the break. Ouellette scored eight of her team's 14 points in that span.
After back-to-back Le Moyne free throws to open the second half, Saint Anselm used a 10-4 run to take its largest lead of the evening, a three-point bulge. The hosts were stunned, however, by eight consecutive points by Le Moyne, who would hold onto the lead throughout the rest of regulation.
Saint Anselm trailed by just two points heading into the fourth quarter, but Le Moyne racked up 18 of the game's next 26 points to create the 12-point margin of victory. In the final 10 minutes, the Hawks were 2-for-11 from the floor with two turnovers.
Le Moyne dominated the glass, hauling in 42 rebounds and limiting the Hawks to just 29 caroms. Saint Anselm shot 33.9% from the floor, making just four of its 18 three-point baskets, while Le Moyne shot 41.2% for the game with 16 free-throw makes on 23 attempts.
