Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's ice hockey on wrong end of 4-3 result at Post

SHELTON, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team came out on the losing end of a 4-3 battle with Post University on Friday.

Saint Anselm falls to 2-1 on the young season and to 1-1 versus Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Post, in its season opener, moves to 1-0 (1-0 NE10) and defeated the Hawks for the first time in its program history with the result.

With the score tied at three in the third period, Post's Nick Weber scored what would be the game-winning goal with 5:48 to go. Just minutes earlier, sophomore Hunter Brackett (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) tied the game at three after Post carried a 3-2 advantage through two periods.

Senior Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.) got the Hawks on the board first in the game, scoring 4:07 into the second stanza to break what was a scoreless tie. Post responded with two goals within 27 seconds, stunning the Hawks, but freshman Garrett Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) scored the first goal of his career off a pass from sophomore Mark Blaney (Braintree, Mass.) just 15 seconds later to tie the game at two.

Post created a 3-2 advantage on a power-play marker at 9:36 of the second, setting up the dramatic third period comeback attempt for the Hawks that fell just short.

Hawks netminder Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) made 28 saves in defeat while Drew Blodgett turned aside 29 of the 32 pucks placed on net for Post. The shots on goal were even in the game at 32 apiece, with the Hawks firing a game-high 15 of those attempts in the third.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday against Post at 2:45 p.m. on the road.
