Men's basketball racks up 26 assists in 94-78 win

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team led from start to finish on Sunday, breezing past Franklin Pierce University by a 94-78 score in a game played in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Saint Anselm improves to 3-3 overall on the season, winning each of its first two games in Northeast-10 Conference play by shooting 56.3% from the floor against the Ravens. Franklin Pierce falls to 2-2 following its NE10 opener.

Senior Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.), honored with a pre-game ceremony to recognize his 1,000th career point, handed out a career-high 11 helpers in the victory, finishing with 18 points and five rebounds in the well-rounded effort.

Tention's 11 assists are the most by a Hawks student-athlete since Tim Guers '19 also produced 11 against American International on Jan. 19, 2019. Junior Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) added four assists for Saint Anselm alongside a team-leading 13 rebounds in 26 minutes.

Senior Owen McGlashan (Marlton, N.J.) was on fire from the floor, shooting 10-for-14 and leading the way with a career-high 23 points. Sophomore Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia) also delivered a personal-best 20 points, making four of his five attempts from beyond the arc.

Senior Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) scored 13 points and sophomore Keith Robinson (Phillip Island, Australia) notched a career-best 10 points with six rebounds off the bench.

In total, the Hawks handed out 26 assists against Franklin Pierce, the most in a single game since January 2020.

Saint Anselm opened up a 26-8 advantage to start the game, connecting on 10 of its first 14 shots and bombing four three-point baskets. Tention had 10 points in that span as the Hawks committed just one turnover while limiting Franklin Pierce to just four made field goals.

A game-high lead of 27 points was created for Saint Anselm just minutes into the second half as an 8-2 spurt for the hosts led to a 60-33 lead. Franklin Pierce made a game of it in the second half, shooting nearly 60% from the field, but the advantage for Saint Anselm would be no smaller than 19 points.

Saint Anselm controlled the paint, scoring 42 points under the basket, and recorded 15 second-chance points in the victory. Overall, the Hawks won the rebounding battle, 42-to-24.

The Hawks return to action this Wednesday, Nov. 30 for a 7:30 p.m. showdown at Saint Rose.
