Men's basketball loses battle with Pace, 74-47

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team was downed by Pace University, 74-47, on Tuesday in Northeast-10 Conference play.

The Hawks fall to 2-3 overall on the season and to 1-1 against NE10 foes. Pace has now won four of its first five games, evening its NE10 record to 1-1.

Senior Owen McGlashan (Marlton, N.J.) scored 17 points for the Hawks, a season-high total. Junior Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) led the team with eight rebounds, adding 10 points. Sophomore Zac Taylor (Victoria, Australia) had nine points, three rebounds, three assists, three steals and two blocks for Saint Anselm in defeat.

With the score tied at 16 near the midpoint of the first half, Pace rattled off an 18-2 run as the Hawks scored just five points in the first half's final nine minutes. The Hawks shooters were 1-for-12 in that 20-point stretch with three turnovers.

The first three made field goals for Saint Anselm in the second half were treys as the Hawks trimmed the Pace lead to nine points, 40-31, with 16:14 left in regulation time. The Setters put the game out of reach by scoring 12 of the game's next 14 points.

Pace added another overwhelming stretch of offensive play later in the second half with a 19-3 run, eliminating any chance of a Hawks comeback. For the game, Saint Anselm shot just 28.3% despite making 10 three-point baskets.

The Setters shot 54.7% from the floor as Bryan and Brandon Powell combined to score 38 points.
