MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team was saddled with a 70-65 loss by visiting Adelphi University on Saturday at Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
Saint Anselm falls to 1-3 overall on the year, losing its first two Northeast-10 Conference games of the season. Adelphi (1-2, 1-1 NE10) secured its first win of the 2022-23 campaign, overcoming a double-digit deficit to win the game.
Junior Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) scored a career-high 28 points, adding nine rebounds and four assists. Senior Liv Robles (Wallingford, Conn.) tacked on a career-best 19 points for the Hawks, hauling in six rebounds.
Senior Macy Spinks (Luton, England) picked up a personal-best nine rebounds, scored eight points and dished out a team-best five assists. Senior McKenzy Ouellette (West Newfield, Maine) played 37 minutes for the Hawks, reeling in a career-high seven rebounds and matching Spinks with five helpers.
Saint Anselm began the game with a 10-point lead, building a 16-6 advantage in the game's first 7:11. Robles had seven points in that time as the team was 7-for-14 from the floor, committing just one miscue.
Adelphi used a 14-4 scoring run to begin the second quarter, capturing its second lead of the afternoon at 28-26 by pouring home four three-point baskets in that span.
The Hawks responded by scoring 16 of the game's next 19 points just before halftime, building a 42-31 lead with 1:38 left in the second quarter. Adelphi scored five points in the final 80 seconds of the first half, but the Hawks took a two-possession lead into the locker room.
Saint Anselm led throughout the entire third quarter and had a 50-41 lead with 6:20 left in the stanza. Adelphi totally overwhelmed the Hawks from that point forward, using an 18-2 scoring run while the Hawks were 1-for-14 from the floor.
Adelphi locked down the win from that point forward as the Hawks were unable to score for a full 7:11 period between the third and fourth quarters. The Hawks cut the lead to three points with just under two minutes left in regulation time, but could not complete the comeback.
Saint Anselm has another strong opponent on the docket, heading to the reigning NCAA Division II East Region Champions from Pace University on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 5:30 p.m.
