PREVIEW: Women's ice hockey set for weekend series at Saint Michael's

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's ice hockey team is set to play a pair of New England Women's Hockey Alliance tilts at Saint Michael's College on Friday, Nov. 18 and Saturday, Nov. 19.

The Hawks split their home-and-home series with Franklin Pierce University on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, capturing a 5-2 win in Winchendon, Mass. before falling by a 2-0 score the following day from Sullivan Arena. Saint Anselm is now 7-8-1 overall and 7-3-1 in NEWHA play. The team will host Dartmouth College in non-conference play on Saturday, Nov. 26 before making the trip to Dartmouth on Sunday, Nov. 27.

The Purple Knights suffered a pair of losses to Long Island University on Nov. 11 and Nov. 12, dropping them to 1-8-1 on the season with a 1-6-1 mark against NEWHA foes. After hosting the Hawks, the team is back in action Friday, Dec. 9 and Saturday, Dec. 10 to conclude six-consecutive home games for Saint Michael's when they host Sacred Heart University.

HAWKS NOTES
  • Junior Natalie Tulchinsky (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and sophomore Tyra Turner (Andover, Minn.) are tied for the Hawks lead and the NEWHA lead with 17 points each. Graduate student Kelly Golini (Tewksbury, Mass.) has added 13 points through 16 games.
  • Tulchinsky leads the NEWHA with 10 goals scored. The junior has added seven helpers which is tied for second in the league.
  • Turner holds the top spot in the NEWHA with nine assists in 2022-23. She has added eight goals to get her to 17 points.
  • Golini is third on the Hawks with six goals scored and is tied with Tulchinsky for second on the team with seven assists. Sophomore Audrey Jackson (Shoreview, Minn.) is fourth on the team with nine points, coming from three goals and six assists.
  • Senior Allie Kelley (East Berne, N.Y.) has 506 saves which are the most in the NEWHA. Kelley has started all 16 games for Saint Anselm and holds a 3.20 goals-against average and a 0.908 save percentage.
  • The Hawks rank second in the league with 42 goals scored while leading with 60 assists. The team is operating on the power play at 12.5%, netting nine goals on 72 chances. The Hawks have been shorthanded 66 times and have allowed 12 goals in those chances, killing off penalties at 81.8%.
SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S
  • Jenna Harrison leads the Saint Michael's offense with four points while Grace Canterbury and Angelina Ruiz are tied for second with three points apiece.
  • Ruiz leads the Purple Knights with three goals, leading a group that has netted seven goals in 2022-23. Four student-athletes have one goal each.
  • Harrison has registered a team-high four assists while Canterbury follows closely with three. Seven Purple Knights sit on one assist.
  • Carissa Mudrak has started six games in the goal for Saint Michael's. She has a 2.79 goals-against average and a 0.939 save percentage. Leah White and Annika Lavender have drawn three starts and one start respectively.
  • Saint Michael's has netted four goals on 29 power play chances, good for a 13.8% power play percentage. The penalty kill is operating at 80.0%, allowing six goals in 30 times shorthanded.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT MICHAEL'S
  • The Hawks and Purple Knights will be battling for the 50th and 51st times in the all-time series on Friday and Saturday. Saint Anselm enjoys a 47-0-2 record against Saint Michael's in women's ice hockey.
  • The programs battled five times in the 2021-22 season with the Hawks holding a 4-0-1 record against the Purple Knights.
  • After a 6-1 win to open the four games in the regular season for the Hawks, the teams skated to a 1-1 tie on Jan. 22. Saint Anselm grabbed a 3-1 and a 4-2 win on Feb. 25 and Feb. 26 before meeting in the NEWHA First Round which went the Hawks way by a 2-1 score on Mar. 1.
