MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's basketball team was toppled by the nationally-ranked Falcons of Bentley University on Wednesday, 72-52.
Saint Anselm falls to 1-2 (0-1 NE10) on the year while Bentley, ranked ninth in NCAA Division II by the Division II Sports Information Directors' Association and 13th by the Women's Basketball Coaches' Association, moves to 3-0 (1-0 NE10).
Senior McKenzy Ouellette (West Newfield, Maine) led Saint Anselm with 10 points as the Hawks shot just over 30% for the game (17-for-55). Bentley limited the Hawks to just a 24.2% field goal percentage in the opening half and took full advantage of 51.9% shooting (14-for-27) in that span to build a sizeable lead.
Bentley built up a 32-14 lead just before halftime and never looked back, dominating the paint (40-to-20), scoring 12 of the game's 18 points off turnovers and receiving 38 points from the bench. The Falcons continued to punish the Hawks late in the contest, scoring a game-high 26 points in the third quarter alone.
The Falcons led by a game-high 28 points, 70-42, with 5:03 left in regulation time – Bentley saw a game-high 14 points from Kari Brekke.
Saint Anselm hosts Adelphi this Saturday, Nov. 19 at 1:30 p.m.
