Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball dropped by Daemen, 81-69

AMHERST, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team recorded an 81-69 loss at Daemen University on Saturday to conclude the two-day East Region Challenge.

Saint Anselm drops to 1-1 following the non-league tilt while Daemen, receiving a single vote in the National Association of Basketball Coaches' preseason poll, exited the game with a perfect 2-0 record after leading the Hawks from start to finish.

Senior Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) was named to the All-Tournament Team with two 22-point performances, replicating his Friday feat on Saturday versus the Wildcats. Junior Jadon Archer (Enfield, Conn.) followed up a 12-point performance on Friday with 15 points and five rebounds against Daemen.

The Wildcats opened up a 13-1 lead over the Hawks and never looked back. Saint Anselm would attempt to rally, trimming the sizeable Daemen lead to three points before an 11-point scoring run by the hosts created a game-high 14-point advantage.

Saint Anselm again cut the Daemen lead to three points near the end of the first half, scoring nine consecutive points. The Wildcats hit a late triple and made a basket as first-half time expired, capturing a seven-point lead at the break.

The Hawks shrunk the Daemen lead to four points, 64-60, following a three-point play by Archer with under six minutes left in regulation. The comeback could not be completed as Daemen poured home eight of the game's next 10 points to re-established a double-digit lead.

Forced to foul, the Wildcats made nine of their final 10 free throws to secure the non-league win over Saint Anselm.

Daemen shot exactly 50% from the floor (28-for-56) with the Hawks not far off at 42.9% (24-for-56). Making nearly 80% of its free throws (15-for-19), Saint Anselm lost the glass battle (37-to-28) but performed well in the paint, scoring 36 points near the basket.

Saint Anselm heads to Post this Wednesday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. in non-conference action.
