Women's tennis tripped up by Adelphi, 7-0

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team was saddled with a 7-0 loss to visiting Adelphi University on Tuesday.

Saint Anselm has lost three matches in a row, falling to 3-7 overall on the season and to 2-4 against Northeast-10 Conference foes. The Panthers finished last season as the runner-up in the NE10 Championship and move to 5-2 overall on the year and to 4-1 in league play.

Adelphi eased its way to the doubles point and went on to set the Hawks down in singles play, cruising to a 7-0 victory. Freshman Irene Garbo (Assemini, Sardinia, Italy) saw a five-match winning streak snapped, but rebounded from a 6-0 opening-set loss to fall by a 6-4 margin in the second stanza.

Freshman Erin Motherway (Stonington, Conn.) made her collegiate debut for the Hawks in the loss, partnering with sophomore Julia Svor (Lewiston, Maine) at No. 3 doubles. Sophomore Julia Casaletto (Rowley, Mass.) also made her first appearance for Saint Anselm this season, dropping a No. 6 singles decision, 6-0, 6-1.

Saint Anselm returns to action Saturday, Oct. 8, facing off against American International in Springfield, Mass. at 11 a.m.
