HOOKSETT, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team opened its 2022-23 season with a 5-1 win over crosstown rival Southern New Hampshire University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday.
The Hawks start the season with a win for the second consecutive full season of competition and move to 1-0-0 in conference tilts. The Penmen open their 2022-23 campaign with a 0-1-0 record on the season and in NE10 play. Saint Anselm makes its home opener on Saturday, Oct. 29 when the University of Southern Maine comes to the Hilltop for a 4 p.m. opening puck drop.
Seniors
Chris Lemay (Salem, N.H.) and
Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.), sophomores
Chase Reynolds (Middletown, Conn.) and
Max Burum (Marshfield, Mass.), and freshman
Luke Linart (Holland, Mich.) netted one goal each for the Hawks. Burum's goal was the first of his collegiate career.
Junior
Jac Cordeiro (Barnstable, Mass.) had a pair of assists to tie Reynolds for a team-high two points in the contest.
Freshman
Garrett Alberti (Wilmington, Mass.) collected an assist on the opening goal. He and Linart posted their first collegiate points in their collegiate debuts. Freshmen
Matt Herrick (Jackson, N.J.) and
Tim Duffy (Sudbury, Mass.) joined Alberti and Linart in making their collegiate debut in the tilt.
After strong breakout and give-and-go through the neutral zone, Lemay opened the scoring at 2:08 of the first period. Lemay finished off a pass from Alberti to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Andary doubled the Saint Anselm lead on the power play just 33 seconds into the second period. Andary cleaned up a rebound chance off a shot from senior co-captain

Cordeiro forced a turnover at the Penmen blue line and sent a cross-crease pass to Burum to extend the Saint Anselm lead to 3-0 at 6:18 of the second period.
After a strong forecheck by the Hawks, which forced a turnover behind the Penmen goal, Linart redirected a pass in front of the cage at 16:09 of the second period, extending the Saint Anselm lead to 4-0.
George Thurston got Southern New Hampshire on the scoreboard at 6:37 of the third period but an empty net goal by Reynolds pushed the tilt to its 5-1 final score.
The Hawks netted one goal on power play chances while the Penmen were one-for-six with the extra skater. Saint Anselm held a 32-31 advantage from the faceoff dots.
Senior net minder
Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) made 28 saves on 29 shots on goal in the winning effort for the Hawks.
Adam Mercer turned aside 23 shots on goal for the Penmen.
